The Addiction Counselor provides advanced clinical services in coordination with the treatment team. The primary purpose is to provide group therapy and individual counseling/therapy services to persons with co-occurring substance use disorder and mental health problems. This role integrates mental health treatment with addiction recovery within a 12-Step, abstinence-based model.

The Addiction Counselor participates as a member of a multidisciplinary team, providing mental health and substance use treatment services to patients and clients, including assessment and diagnosis, individual and group psychotherapy, crisis intervention, and ongoing care planning.

Utilizes and conducts 1:1 and group counseling and/or therapy, consistent with Twelve Step facilitation principles, motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy, and principles of recovery management. Provides family counseling. Facilitates crisis intervention.

Assists patients, families, and referents in understanding the importance of AA contacts, AA involvement, and commitment to continuing care recommendations to support recovery.

Builds professional relationships with referents that facilitate both patient care and organizational goals through consistent and timely communication related to intake, assessment, care planning, care, and continuing care.

Initiates/attends multidisciplinary team meetings, case reviews, conflict resolutions, family conferences, consultations, etc. as needed to facilitate achievement of programmatic and individual goals consistent with recovery.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Completed certificate/degree program in addiction counseling or equivalent.

Two years experience providing counseling in addiction treatment services.

One or more years of providing therapy in a mental health/addiction treatment environment.

Minimum two years freedom from substance use problems.
