Position SummaryThe objective of this position is to provide Project Leadership, Research and Development, and technical service for multiple assigned technical projects conducted within the R&D department. Principal Engineer/Scientist I will be responsible for completing assigned projects with minimal supervision while promoting a safe work environment.The scientist will engage in laboratory work to evaluate the SAP materials, formulate new products, as well as plan, lead and analyze production trials.This position offers the potential for career development with acquisition of new skills. A high degree of personal initiative and advanced interpersonal skills are needed to perform this job effectively. The position requires interaction with other employees as well as suppliers and customers.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesResearch, suggest, and develop new products and projects for the organic growth of CHASE corporation with input from more senior R&D staff or R&D managementRecommend, plan, execute, generate or obtain results, and evaluate the data from all experiments (lab and/or production scale) agreed upon with management input.Prepare all required reports as directed as well as presentations of projects.Adhere to all Chase Design Control Procedures, Safety Policies, Environments Policies, and other facility requirements where the work is conductedSupport and collaborate with all individuals within the company as necessary and recommended to achieve the results required by assigned projectsAttend all team meetings related to assigned projectsOrganize and convene additional meetings as necessary to achieve project successProvide technical support to Marketing, Sales, Engineering, Manufacturing and other Product Development staff as needed.Guided interaction with customers, sales, technical service, quality control, production, and/or suppliersRecommend external meetings and conferencesAttend training for self-improvementConduct literature searches, including related technical papers, patents, and others, as needed.Travel may be required on a limited basisEducationMaster’s or Ph.D. in Chemistry, Materials Science or related fieldTraining in chemical science/engineering or material science/engineering with at least 10 or more years of industrial work experienceMaterial and process scale-up experienceExcellent data analysis skills to form solid conclusionsDemonstrated product development experience including the formulation of water-based, solvent-based, emulsions/dispersionsWorking knowledge of materials analysis, testing and evaluation techniques including thermal analysis, FTIR, GC/MS, ICP, surface science/tribology, particle size analysis, powder flow characterization, adhesive bond characterization, corrosion analysis, SPC (e.g., Ppk/Cpk), root cause and other failure analysis methodologies.Experience with thermoplastic and thermoset polymers including (poly)olefins, polyesters, polyurethanes, (poly)siloxanes, hot-melts, thermal-cured and UV/EB-curable resin compositions, super-absorbents, and composite materialsExceptional communication skills (both written and oral)Good written communication skills to report resultsFluency in using contemporary and relevant software such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and DOE/optimization software like Minitab or other similar toolsThe self-motivation and ability to operate routinely in a fast-paced environment as demonstrated from previous experienceGood interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work with suppliers and customers who have a wide variety of backgroundsTime management, prioritization, and planning skills required to balance multiple simultaneous projectsRecognized ability to work collaboratively and harmoniously with other departments and R&D colleagues to achieve successful commercialization of projects within the timelines required.Familiar with Stage gate process and Design control procedure knowledge and document maintenanceRecognized/demonstrated success in the effective completion of projectsRecognized expertise in the resident technology for the relevant Business Unit
