Job Summary
SUMMARY
- Performs highly complex automotive repair work; does related work as required. This is a skilled mechanic's position at a certified level involved in the maintenance and repair of gasoline and diesel equipment. A mechanic in this classification, with little supervision from the Automotive Services Manager, diagnoses and makes mechanical/electronic repairs on all sizes of gasoline and diesel equipment.
Job Duties
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
include the following. Other duties may be assigned. On call towing light and heavy duty Using electronic diagnostic equipment, traces out and repairs any vehicle system, including electrical/electronic, carburetor/fuel injection, hydraulic/pneumatic heat and air conditioning and any other major repair that requires the experience of an accredited gasoline/diesel mechanic. Repairs diesel passenger buses, forklifts, street sweepers and off-road equipment. Supervises mechanics and helpers in the absence of the Automotive Services Manager. Must be proficient in computer technology and terminology to repair both light and heavy-duty vehicles. Must be able to read and interpret computer and electrical schematics to repair light and heavy vehicles. Knowledge of diesel after-treatment systems Knowledge on how to replace engines and transmissions; as well as repair. Ability to perform annual inspections on equipment and vehicles Knowledge of high fuel pressure and injector diagnosis Working weekends during summer months - 1 -2 times a month During weekend work, have off on Thursday and Friday leading up to the weekend Working holidays during summer months, the hours worked will be used as a floating holiday later in the year

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED), preferably in the vocational arts. Completion of an apprenticeship in automotive mechanics and/or five (5) years of practical experience certified by the National Institute of Automotive Services; five (5) years of repairing gasoline/diesel equipment at a master level, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements, preferred or must be able to obtain a CDL with Class A endorsement and ASE certification for heavy duty vehicles, within one (1) year of employment.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:
Thorough knowledge of gasoline and diesel-powered engines, transmissions and drive trains; physical dexterity required to perform all necessary duties. Willingness and ability to assist other mechanics in any other type of work; ability to operate electronic and mechanical testing equipment normally used by automotive mechanics; and ability to rebuild and repair parts and engines.

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
