This paragraph summarizes the general nature, level and purpose of the job.The Pharmacy Technician I is the entry, developmental, and training level of the Pharmacy Technician Job Family that performs, under supervision of a pharmacist, non-sterile compounding, and central pharmacy operations including preparing medication doses, and responding to nursing requests. Demonstrates a basic understanding of the responsibilities regarding medication and pharmacy operations.Essential Functions

Employees may also perform other duties as assigned.Employees must abide by all Joint Commission Requirements including but not limited to sensitivity to cultural diversity, patient care, patient rights and ethical treatment, safety and security of physical environments, emergency management, teamwork, respect for others, participation in ongoing education and training, communication and adherence to safety and quality programs, sustaining compliance with National Patient Safety Goals, and licensure and health screenings.Must perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the hospital’s policies and procedures, including its Service Standards and its Code of Conduct.Compounds non-sterile, non-hazardous drugs and repackages medications using pharmaceutical mathematic calculations for pharmacist approval.Inventories supplies by checking for shortages, rotating stock, and removing expired medications.Accurately prepares and distributes medications.Documents compounding and medications in computer systems.Runs basic pharmacy operation reports.Responds to nursing requests by distributing doses to patients, successfully following security protocols.Performs basic controlled substance distribution and delivery.Fills medication trays and ensures accuracy.Minimum Qualifications
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying.Education : High School Diploma or GED equivalent.Experience : None required.License/Certification : Licensed as a Pharmacy Technician by the California Board of Pharmacy -OR- Licensed as Pharmacy Intern by the California Board of Pharmacy -OR- Licensed as a Pharmacist by the California Board of Pharmacy.Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
