UNC Rex is seeking an outpatient BC/BE Neurologist. In our clinic, you'll care for conditions and diseases of the nervous system.
Services• Consultations and physical exams• Infusion (IV) therapy• Electromyography (EMG)/nerve conduction studies (a recording of the electrical activity of a muscle)• Electroencephalography (EEG, a recording of the electrical activity of part of the brain)• Lumbar punctures to test spinal fluid• Skin, muscle and nerve samples (biopsies)• Nerve ultrasounds (using sound waves to measure nerve activity)• Botulinum toxin (Botox) injections (used to treat migraines)• Clot-buster medications for stroke
Conditions• Stroke and cerebrovascular (brain/blood vessel) diseases• Movement disorders and Parkinson's disease• Neurodegenerative disorders and dementia• Nerve damage that causes pain, numbness and weakness (neuropathy)• Headache disorders• Seizure disorders
Responsibilities:• Provides professional medical services to patients.• Exercises independent professional judgment in the care and treatment of patients.• Orders and prescribes medical treatment, diagnostic testing, nursing care and other health and medical services. Prescribes medically appropriate pharmaceuticals.• Consults and counsels with patients and families. Provides health and medical education to patients and families.• Refers patients as needed to appropriate medical specialists and other health care professionals to assure appropriate multidisciplinary care is provided.• Documents medical and clinical care in the patient's medical record. Assigns the appropriate diagnostic and procedural codes to permit third party insurance billing.• Supervises other medical professionals.• Adheres to the principles of medical ethics.
Education and Licensure/Certification Requirements:• Meets the Board Certification requirements. Graduation from an accredited school of medicine.• BE/BC Neurology• Previous experience required• North Carolina Medical License, DEA License, BLS/ACLS certification preferred.
