are responsible for enforcing laws related to commercial vehicles including regulations relating to vehicle registration, safety and vehicle weight limits. Duties include conducting investigations, inspections and compliance surveys.The

Motor Carrier Safety Officer I

is the entry level worker in the series. Positions in this class receive formal and on-the-job training on motor carrier safety rules and regulations, inspection practices and procedures, and accident investigation techniques; and perform other related duties as assigned.To qualify, applicants must meet ALL of the following requirements:General Experience:

One (1) year

of work experience which demonstrated knowledge of arithmetic, including multiplication and division; and the ability to read, understand, and explain rules and regulations; conduct inspections or investigations to check for noncompliance with laws, rules and regulations; follow verbal and written instructions; and prepare clear, concise reports.Special Requirement:All positions require the ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 40 pounds unassisted and lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds assisted by another person and/or use of equipment (e.g. hoisting equipment, hand truck) with or without reasonable accommodation.Substitutions Allowed:
