The Department of Corrections & Rehabilitation formally known as Department of Public Safety, has (1) ONE urgent vacancy located at the Maui Community Correctional Center.A continuous recruitment may be closed at any time. The notice of the last day to file applications will be posted on the State of Hawaii's Civil Service Job Opportunities Listing page of our website.Independently performs a variety of skilled building maintenance and repair work as a regular and continuing work assignment; may supervise one or more building maintenance helpers or other helpers assisting in the work; and performs other related duties as assigned.To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements:

Legal Authorization to Work Requirement: The State of Hawaii requires all persons seeking employment with the government of the State shall be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.Experience and Training: FOUR (4) YEARS of work experience in performing a variety of building maintenance repair work or an equivalent combination of experience and training.Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) Requirement: As required by the Prison Rape Elimination Act of 2003 (PREA), Federal law states that '....an agency shall not hire or promote anyone who may have contact with inmates and who:(1) Has engaged in sexual abuse in a prison, jail, lockup, community confinement facility, juvenile facility or other institution.(2) Has been convicted of engaging or attempting to engage in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force, or coercion, or if the victim did not consent or was unable to consent or refuse.(3) Has been civilly or administratively adjudicated to have engaged in the activity described in #2 above.(4) Has been the subject of substantiated allegations of sexual abuse or sexual harassment or resigned during a pending investigation of alleged sexual abuse or sexual harassment.Driver's License: Some positions require possession of a valid driver's license at the time of appointment. The immediate vacancy has this requirement.Other Requirements: Applicants who are conditionally offered employment or conditionally approved for movement into positions with the Department of Corrections & Rehabilitation shall be subject to drug screening, as required by Federal, State or local laws or departmental policy; and will be subject to an intensive background check.
