Pending any course assignment, initial placement can range as follows: Lab Course - $75.48 up to $103.03 per hour. The ideal candidate will share the Colleges’ commitment to educating a racially and socioeconomically diverse student population.Duties and Responsibilities:Teach with significant ability in specific areas of dance: modern dance, choreography, hip-hop, and jazz dance.Maintain expertise in the areas of modern dance, choreography, hip-hop, and jazz dance.Collaborate with other dance faculty and create a team environment.Be involved in curriculum revisions and new dance course development.Be involved in the College Dance Performance organized at the end of each semester.Consult with students during regularly scheduled office and lab hours.Maintain expertise in technology such as web-based educational platforms and digital media.Perform other professional duties as required by contract and general institutional needs.Contemporary Modern Dance: Teach fundamentals of contemporary modern dance technique.Dance Composition – Theory and Choreography: Provide students with basic skills and knowledge of the choreographic principles.Argentine Tango: Teach basic, intermediate and/or advanced argentine tango dance technique.Mexican Folkloric Dance: Teach the skills of Mexican Folkloric dance while improving student’s technique, poise, self- confidence and creative ability.Social Dance: Teach basic, intermediate and/or advanced social dance vocabulary, technique, body placement, musicality.Minimum Qualifications:- Possession of a Master’s or above in dance, physical education with a dance emphasis, or theater with dance emphasis, OR Bachelor’s in any of the above AND Master’s in physical education, any life science, physiology, theater arts, kinesiology, humanities, performing arts or music OR the equivalent- Demonstrated cultural competence, sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staffPreferred Qualifications: Subject matter preparation in teaching contemporary modern dance and choreography at the college or high school level.Faculty Benefits: Academic employees participate in the State Teachers’ Retirement System (STRS), a defined-benefit retirement plan through the State of California or they may choose to participate in the STRS Cash Balance program or Social Security.Open Date: 05/11/2018Close Date: Open Until FilledSpecial Instructions Summary: Required application materials will be screened on the basis of Requirements and Desirable Skills and Abilities listed in this announcement.
