The Colleges seek a part-time faculty member in Construction Management. The ideal candidate will share the Colleges’ commitment to educating a racially and socioeconomically diverse student population.This position is a “pool” position meaning that openings may or may not be currently available. The District maintains a “pool” of applications for positions which are needed on an ongoing basis at Cañada College, College of San Mateo, and Skyline College. Your application for this position will be kept current for a period of two years.Duties and Responsibilities:Teach lecture/lab classes as assigned from the Construction Management Curriculum. Particularly Fundamentals of Construction Management ( MGMT 450) and Project Management Site Exploration ( MGMT 680SD)Create lesson plans, facilitate effective instruction, and assess student learningParticipate in the development and/or selection of course materials, equipment, and technology that will enhance project management offerings of the departmentParticipate, on an ongoing basis, in the development, assessment, and analysis of student learning outcomes in construction project managementParticipate in professional development to maintain expertise in current teaching and discipline technologies and pedagogiesConsult with students during regularly scheduled office hoursPerform other duties as required by contract, collective bargaining agreement, and general institutionalWork evenings as neededMinimum Qualifications:Possession of any Bachelor’s degree AND two years of professional experience OR an Associate degree AND six years of professional experience OR the equivalentResidential and commercial experience related to construction management coordination and job site experienceActive network involvement within the construction management industry communityDemonstrated cultural competence, sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staffKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Subject matter preparation:Successful experience in construction management and successful teaching experience or ability to teachCurrent knowledge of residential and commercial construction management and job site experienceEvidence of outstanding ability as a teacher:An understanding and commitment to the role and purpose of the community collegeStrong organizational and leadership skillsAcceptance of the division’s commitment to established academic standardsKnowledge of current theories and teaching methods, especially in a culturally diverse student populationThe ability to support diverse students ensuring equity through their educational experienceThe ability to utilize technology to facilitate effective teaching and learning in an online and hybrid classroom environmentThe ability to use and develop teaching methods that emphasize cooperation and collaboration, and engage students actively in learning, encouraging them to become independent, creative learners with higher-order thinking skillsThe ability to organize and explain materials in ways appropriate to students with different abilities, levels of preparation, and cultural experiencesThe ability to develop instructional learning outcomes and to develop methods for assessing student’s achievement of these outcomesThe ability to organize and teach both theoretical and practical applications of the subject-matter in ways appropriate to students’ abilitiesPreferred Qualifications:Faculty BenefitsAcademic employees participate in the State Teachers’ Retirement System ( STRS ), a defined-benefit retirement plan through the State of California or they may choose to participate in the STRS Cash Balance program or Social Security.Open Date: 09/06/2016Open Until Filled: YesSpecial Instructions Summary: Required application materials will be screened on the basis of Requirements and Desirable Skills and Abilities listed in this announcement.
