DescriptionIn this role, you will serve as the technical expert in fire and life safety. In coordination with the Fire and Construction Safety Manager, you will lead all fire and life safety programs and oversee program compliance with UCLA Health's medical centers and clinics to ensure a safe and secure environment for staff, patients, and visitors. Provide expert counsel by evaluating, interpreting, and applying laws across fire life safety for existing healthcare locations and new construction sites. You will develop and implement policies to ensure our facilities are in compliance with federal, state, and local safety regulations.This role may also provide support to other safety programs such as industrial hygiene, ergonomics, occupational safety, pest control, laboratory safety, hazardous materials control, emergency services and preparedness, radiological safety, and air/water/soil quality as needed.Responsibilities include:Inspect/investigate incidents and complaints, and recommend corrective action as neededDesign new and/or recommend improvements to existing processes and procedures related to health care facilities fire and life safetyAudit construction and major renovation activities before, during and after projects. Assist in approving construction site set up and breakdownOversee routine and specialty fire drills in patient care, non-patient care, and high-risk areas. Identify risks, opportunities for improvement and system correctionsDraft reports and other documentation, including use of relevant scientific data.Maintains knowledge on California Building Standards - Title 24 and, including but not limited to health care facilities codes such as NFPA 99, NFPA 101, and NFPA 25This position is expected to travel throughout various UCLA Health locations as needed.Salary range: $76,200-$158,800 Annually

QualificationsRequired:2 years of experience performing plan review and technical inspections or supervision of general construction projects for fire and life safety compliance in a public or private fire prevention agencyThorough knowledge of Title 19, Title 24, or hospital construction in the state of CaliforniaExperience with NFPA 99 standards and Joint Commission.Bachelor's degree in fire administration and technology, engineering, chemistry, physics, architecture, or related areaValid California Driver's License (subject to DMV Pull)Demonstrated experience performing full-time review and/or technical inspection of general construction projects for fire and life safety compliance in public or private fire preventionThorough knowledge/understanding of Health Facilities Construction including related laws and regulations; and general knowledge/understanding of related constructionThorough knowledge and skill in applying and interpreting applicable local, state, and federal regulations and related standards and guidelines related to construction building codes, analytical and organizational skills to organize, prioritize and manage the successful completion of projects within time and budget constraintsThorough written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including political acumen and skill to communicate effectively in a diverse environmentStrong skills to appropriately use technology and relevant scientific equipment as requiredStrong analytical and organizational skills to organize, prioritize and manage the successful completion of projects within time and budget constraintsPreferred:Professional certification
