Grounds and Nursery Specialist 1 (Part Time)

Applications are being accepted to fill anticipated openings in future quarters.Assist the EvCC groundskeeping team with maintaining the campus grounds. Work with grounds lead for schedule of work.Prepare soil for planting seed, sod, turf, bulbs, plants, trees, and shrubs. Ensure planting beds are free of weeds/leaf debris, etc.Clean and maintain tools and equipment, including power equipment. Keep tools and equipment for housing use in a secured area.Seed, mow, irrigate, sweep, fertilize, top dress, edge, aerate and maintain lawns.Rake and remove leaves; pull, hoe, and control weeds.Sweep/tidy courtyardsEmpty outdoor garbage cans and haul trash to central collection area for Cedar Hall.Move 3 yard Recycle and 3 yard Trash bins for scheduled pick-up. Return containers after pickup.Assist with pruning trees, shrubs and ground covers.Remove debris, refuse, leaves, brush, snow, and ice from areas such as walks, stairs, roads, ramps and parking lots; apply ice melter, sand and gravel.Competently and safely use a variety of manual tools and equipment including, but not limited to rakes, pruning shears, hand edgers, loppers, shovels, wheelbarrows and pesticide sprayers.Operate power and motorized equipment including, but not limited to weed trimmers, chain saws, backpack blowers, rototillers, light tractors, front-end loaders, small trucks, lawn mowers, sweepers, aerators, sod cutters and snow blowers in a safe, competent and accurate manner.Apply pesticides and herbicides to greenery and plant material as directed by Grounds Lead only.Perform related duties as required.Minimum Qualifications:High School Diploma, GED, or higher qualificationAt least one year of experience or training involving grounds maintenance, plant care, cultivation and landscape installation or equivalent education/experience.Knowledge of standard practices, methods, materials, tools, equipment and safety precautions of the grounds maintenance trade.Possession of or the ability to obtain within six (6) months, a Washington State permit to apply pesticides.Possession of a valid Washington State driver’s license.Preferred Qualifications:Pesticide license preferred but not required.Physical Demands:Ability to work both indoors and outdoors in all weather conditionsAbility to safely operate grounds keeping tools and equipmentAbility to exchange information on the phone or in personPhysical ability to do required work, including but not limited to, the ability to lift and carry at least 50 pounds, stand, walk, bend, twist, stoop, squat, kneel, climb, reach, grasp, push and pull.Work Hours:Part time, maximum 69 hours per month.Schedule may vary, and may include weekends.Salary: $16.52 per hour
