KAWERAK POSITION DESCRIPTIONDIVISION: Community ServicesJOB TITLE: Children and Family Services SpecialistPOSITION STATUS: Regular, Full TimeEXEMPT STATUS: Non-exemptPAY SCALE GRADE: 12 – 13 – 14 – 15REPORTS TO: CFS ManagerBRIEF SUMMARY OF JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:Under supervision of CFS Manager, coordinate program planning and development and ensure implementation of the goals and objectives of the Children and Family Services Program.Provide new Tribal Family Coordinators with initial orientation and training for the Children and Family Services Program.Provide consultation and on-going orientation and coordination of training to Tribal Family Coordinators. Search for and distribute best-practice, relevant training topics for TFCs.With input from Tribes, TFCs, and partner agencies, develop, coordinate, and facilitate at least one in-person, week-long training per year in conjunction with CFS Manager and CFS/CAC Director.Assist CFS Manager with hiring duties including advertising, checking references, and conducting interviews.Assist Tribal Family Coordinators with duties including, but not limited to, working with OCS, court issues, and daily schedules.Gather information required for grant application and program reports including time studies.Develop and implement quality assurance mechanisms for the CFS program, including conducting monthly case reviews with Tribal Family Coordinators to ensure the proper provision of services for children and families.Work together with the Office of Children’s Services (OCS) and regional tribal governments to ensure that state and tribal child welfare standards are being met in accordance with all regulations, policies, ordinances, and governing requirements.Coordinate with CFS Manger and CAC/CFS Director to ensure maximum reimbursement for the Tribal Title IV-E program.Work with regional entities to ensure that village social services needs are addressed. Promote family and community wellness and ensure Tribal Family Coordinators implement primary prevention activities outlined in the goals and objectives of the program.Keep current with all federal, state, and tribal laws that affect and impact child welfare.Other duties as assigned by the CFS Manager.QUALIFICATIONS:AA degree in Human Services field, or two years of responsible work experience in comparable field. Willingness to attend professional development courses required for the position.One year of management and supervisory experience preferred.Experience with administrative duties including interaction with the public and with agency representatives.Ability to work with multiple agencies in coordinating, planning, and delivering events.Ability to write documents for distribution such as brochures, newsletters, newspaper articles, etc.Ability to maintain client confidentialityAbility to work well with the public and with individuals of varied cultural backgrounds and age groups who may have experienced physical or sexual abuseComputer and office skills required. Must possess knowledge and skills in Internet usage and Microsoft Office software.Must be dependable, self-motivated, and able to work with minimal supervision.This position is a Covered Position subject to all requirements of the Alaska Barrier Crimes Act AS 47.05.310-47.05.390, 7 AAC 10.900-10.990, and to the Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act, 25 USC 3201-3211 (ICPA). A background check clearance is required, including fingerprints, and the employee’s name will be submitted to the Background Check Unit of the State of Alaska Department of Health and Social Services and entered into their central registry.
