Harlem Children’s Zone (HCZ) — a world-renowned education and poverty-fighting organization based in New York — seeks an enthusiastic, dedicated, and mission-aligned Tutor to support the Academic Services Unit.The Tutor will bring a passion for the mission of Harlem Children’s Zone: break the cycle of intergenerational poverty with comprehensive, on-the-ground programming that builds up opportunities for children and families to thrive in school, work, and life.The Tutor will join our Academic Services Unit team to help provide structured academic support and guidance to our students throughout the school year. The ideal candidate will ensure that students meet or exceed grade-level standards and expectations within a given subject area. Tutors must be able to motivate and maintain the students' interest while setting a positive example in all areas, including timeliness, attendance, and professionalism. Additionally, Tutors must take a sincere, active, and appropriate interest in the well-being of all students.A commitment to the mission and programs of HCZStrong communication skills, both oral and writtenAbility to create basic lesson plans preferredFamiliarity with Common Core Standards is a huge plusWhat you’ll doWork one-on-one and in small groups with students to provide them with academic interventionPartner with Academic Support Team to develop and implement instructional strategiesRegularly provide and/or exchange student information with program staff, as appropriateDocument all tutoring sessions in the Tutor Log, detailing student interactions, achievements, and any potential concernsPeriodically administer assessments and collaborate with staff to analyze scoresPerform other duties assignedScheduleMust be available to work flexible after-school hoursAs a member of the Harlem Children's Zone team, you will join a supportive and inclusive community dedicated to helping children, families — and our staff — thrive.Qualifications
