Lecture Course - $83.63 up to $121.64.Position Type: Part-Time Faculty, TemporaryPosting Text: The Colleges seek a part-time faculty member in ESL. The ideal candidate will share the Colleges’ commitment to educating a racially and socioeconomically diverse student population. This position is a “pool” position meaning that openings may or may not be currently available. The District maintains a “pool” of applications for positions which are needed on an ongoing basis at Cañada College, College of San Mateo, and Skyline College. Your application for this position will be kept current for a period of two years.Duties and Responsibilities

Teach developmental English as Second language courses, including writing, reading, and listening/speaking courses.Minimum Qualifications

Possession of a Master’s or above in TESL, TESOL, applied linguistics with a TESL emphasis, linguistics with a TESL emphasis, English with a TESL emphasis or education with a TESL emphasis OR Bachelor’s in TESL, TESOL, English with a TESL certificate, linguistics with a TESL certificate, applied linguistics with a TESL certificate, or any foreign language with a TESL certificate AND Master’s or above in linguistics, applied linguistics, English, composition, bilingual/bicultural studies, reading, speech or any foreign language OR the equivalent (see below)Demonstrated cultural competence, sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staffKnowledge, Skills and Abilities

Successful experience in teaching, or evidence of preparation to teach, the full range of English as a Second Language courses, including writing, reading, and listening/speaking courses.Willingness to work in the Writing Center, which serves students enrolled in English and ESL courses and in courses participating in the Writing Across the Curriculum initiative.Willingness to work in the Reading and ESL Center, which serves students enrolled in Reading courses and ESL reading and conversation courses.Ability to teach successfully with classroom-based instruction and to incorporate computer-assisted instruction both in the classroom and online.Ability to use and develop teaching methods that emphasize cooperation and collaboration and engage students actively in learning, encouraging them to become independent, creative learners with critical thinking skills.Ability to organize and explain materials in ways appropriate to students with different abilities, levels of preparation, and cultural experiences.Commitment to the teaching profession, its goals and ideals, and enthusiasm for the mission of the community college.
