Position SummaryThe Registrar & Collections Manager is responsible for the care, preservation, security, and storage of the Lewis Museum’s collections, maintaining records, and managing the process for inspection, transportation, reporting, installation, and dispersal of museum objects. This position reports to the Director of Interpretation, Collections, and Education.Primary ResponsibilitiesEnsure proper care and preservation of museum collectionsDevelop and maintain an inventory system for artifacts, collections, photographs, and materialsContribute to exhibition planning and oversee loansAssign and supervise Collections staff, interns, and volunteersRecruit and train Collections volunteersOrganize and maintain records of permanent collectionsSupervise Collections Curatorial Technician and registrational dutiesDuties IncludeMaintain and update the Museum's CMS PastPerfectConduct inspections of museum objects, prepare reports, and keep records on loansServe as a liaison for transporting museum objectsDocument collections photographicallySupervise exhibition installationsArrange framing, conservation, and insurance coverageCreate and manage loan files, receipts, and insurance recordsPerform inventories and update the Online Collections PortalProvide educational overview of Museum collectionsSkills & QualificationsRequired:Bachelor’s degree in relevant field3+ years managing art and artifact collections in a museumKnowledge of collections management standardsExperience in care, preservation, and documentation of museum collectionsProject management skillsPhysical ability for museum tasksOccasional evening and weekend availabilityOrganized, detail-oriented, and independentPreferred:Master’s degree in relevant fieldFamiliarity with African diaspora culturesExtensive knowledge of museum principles and practicesProficiency in Google Suite and MS WordExcellent communication and problem-solving skillsKnowledge of cataloging and collections management softwareSalary Range & Benefits$58,000 – $65,000State of Maryland benefits package includes health insurance and leave days.Applications accepted until April 4, 2022.
