Responsibilities

The Director of Development will strategically execute apersonal solicitation program resulting in philanthropic support bymaximizing the identification, cultivation, solicitation andstewardship of prospects for gifts at the $100,000 and up level forthe College of Business. This individual will secure, on an annualbasis, private support at the major and principal gift level andwill be responsible for identification of potential major andprincipal gift prospects. The Director of Development will beexpected to uphold and exemplify the operating practices of theDivision of University Advancement while raising philanthropicdollars in support of the mission of Florida State University.

Works with the Dean, the Senior Director for Development, andthe other members of the College of Business’s (COB) development,communication and alumni team to develop and execute strategicfundraising initiatives on behalf of the COB and the university.Develops, coordinates, and executes an annual major gift plan,implementing fund-raising activities designed to meet anestablished monetary goal while also hitting a set suite ofmetrics. Establishes new relationships resulting in philanthropicinvestment, maintains existing relationships, which may generatenew philanthropic investments, and provides prospect/donor-relatedassessments and feedback for the COB and the Division of UniversityAdvancement. Identifies, qualifies and sustains a donor prospectportfolio with individuals who have a giving capacity of $100,000or more. Secures gifts and pledges from alumni, parents, faculty,staff, and friends of FSU.

Exhibits and promotes a comprehensive understanding of thephilanthropic priorities of the COB, effectively matching thespecific interests of prospects to those needs.

Plans for and initiates direct activities with prospects thatare designed to enhance the affiliation between the prospect andFSU. Effectively communicates FSU’s mission and represents FSU’sculture to external stakeholders.

Central Development Collaboration

Coordinates with the Division of University Advancementcolleagues to identify prospects for planned giving, corporate andfoundation giving in partnership with the Office of UniversityResearch, and principal giving in partnership with the PrincipalGifts Team. Protects confidential information. Perform otherrelated duties as required and assigned.

Administrative/Events

Assists in the facilitation of meetings, communications,informational exchanges and project / philanthropic coordinationwith the faculty and faculty chairs. Prepares proposals and giftagreements as required for proper gift documentation. Preparescorrespondence with prospects and documents communications,solicitation activity and gift information in compliance with theFSU Foundation’s reporting guidelines. Creates, inspires, andmaintains donor loyalty, interest and enthusiasm throughstewardship communication and activities designed to expressrecognition, appreciation and the impact of their gift(s).Implementation of such a stewardship plan may include but shouldnot be limited to letters, communication of unit or universityinitiatives, invitations to appropriate activities, meetings,events, student engagement or the facilitation of campusvisits.

Board/Volunteer Management

Assists in the management of all volunteer boards associatedwith the College of Business.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and six years’ experience in a relatedadvancement field or a combination of post high school educationand experience equal to ten years.

Valid FL or GA Driver's License or the ability to obtain.
