Graduation from an accredited Psychiatric Technician ProgramCompletion of an equivalent education and experience that meets the requirement of the American Association of Psychiatric TechniciansCompletion of education and experience as a behavioral science specialist/technician in the United States military and proof of having completed an Armed Forces course involving psychiatric technician training or civilian course from an accredited school in the care of behavioral health patients

Experience:

Possess at least 1 year full-time experience within the preceding 2 years as either a

Psychiatric Technician ,

Mental Health Technician , or a

LPN

with at least 1 year full-time experience within the preceding 3 years in a partial, acute, or long-term (residential) psychiatric facilityCertificate:

BLS certification through American Heart Association must be hands-on courseU.S. Citizenship:

http://www.pdhealth.mil/Emphasis will be on the treatment of mental health to include post-traumatic stress disorders and other combat-related psychological symptomsFamily member care, related to deployment, may be included in the active duty member’s scheduled sessionsMeasure and record the patient's general physical condition, such as pulse, temperature, and respiration, to provide daily information; observe patients to detect behavior patterns and report observations to medical staffIntervene to restrain violent, potentially violent, or suicidal patients by verbal or physical means as requiredCo-facilitate prescribed individual or group therapy sessions as part of specific therapeutic proceduresCORE DUTIES:Conduct or assist in treatment and rehabilitation of patientsPerform initial basic assessment procedures including standardized psychological testing, clinical interviewing, mental status examinations, substance abuse evaluations, and psychological and nursing assessmentIdentify mental health and nursing diagnoses, and provide patient educationObserve, monitor, record, and report the patient's progressConduct or assist in conducting group and individual counseling, therapeutic community, and other related milieu activitiesInstitute precautionary measures to prevent patient injury or suicideAssist patients with nutritional, hygiene, and comfort measuresObtain and record vital signsCoordinate with other agencies regarding specified care, treatment, prevention, rehabilitation, and administrative functionsContact military and community agencies to obtain collateral informationExplain and interpret mental health services to patients or othersAssist in, or arrange patient referral to public, private, and military community agenciesPrepare and maintain records and reports pertaining to specialty servicesAssist with the care of individuals experiencing acute and post-traumatic stress reactionsPrepare and maintain treatment recordsMaintain a level of productivity comparable with that of other individuals performing similar servicesParticipate in peer review and performance improvement activitiesPractice aseptic techniques as necessaryComply with infection control guidelines to include the proper handling, storage, and disposal of infectious wastes, and the use of universal precautions to prevent the spread of infectionFunction with an awareness and application of safety proceduresPerform efficiently in emergency patient situations following established protocols, remaining calm, informing appropriate persons, and documenting eventsAnticipate potential problems/emergencies and make appropriate interventionsNotify supervisor, director, or other designated person regarding problems that the HCW is unable to manageApply an awareness of legal issues in all aspects of patient care and strive to manage situations in a reduced-risk mannerParticipate in the implementation of the Family Advocacy Program as directedParticipation shall include, but not be limited to, appropriate medical examination, documentation, and reportingExercise awareness and sensitivity to patient/significant others' rights, as identified within the MTFMaintain an awareness of responsibility and accountability for own professional practiceParticipate in continuing education to meet own professional growthAttend and/or comply with all annual training classes required by the Command, to include but not limited to online annual training provided by the MTF: disaster training, infection control, Sexual Harassment, Bloodborne Pathogens, Fire and Safety, Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Explosives (CBRNE), and all other required trainingActively participate in the command’s Performance Improvement ProgramParticipate in meetings to review and evaluate the care provided to patients, identify opportunities to improve the care delivered, and recommend corrective action when problems existParticipate in the provision of in-service training to clinic staff membersProvide training and/or direction as applicable to supporting government employees (e.g., hospital corpsmen, students, etc.)Attend and participate in various meetings as directedPerform timely, accurate, and concise documentation of patient careOperate and manipulate automated systems such as CHCS, AHLTA, ADS, Essentris, MHS Genesis, and Clinical Information System (CIS), participate in clinical staff Performance Improvement (PI) and Risk Management (RM) functions, as prescribed by the CommanderMaintain DOD email account as directed. The HCW shall be responsive to all email and voicemail communicationsExercise appropriate delegation of tasks and duties in the direction and coordination of healthcare team members, patient care, and clinic activitiesMaintain documentation of all treatment provided in accordance with clinic directives, and prepare such records and reports as may be requiredAll records and reports must be legible. Abbreviations must be only those listed in local instructionsHOURS:Services shall be provided Monday through Friday, between the hours of 0600 and 1800 hoursShifts will normally be scheduled for an 8.5 TO 9-hour period, inclusive of an uncompensated 30 to 60-minute lunch breakIn no instance will the HCW be required to provide services in excess of 80 hours per two-week periodSPECIAL REQUIREMENTS/SKILLSMust be comfortable in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Must be able and willing to reprioritize on short notice and work on multiple simultaneous projects. Flexible and able to work with various personalities. Teamwork skills required. Time management skills required. The ability to meet deadlines in a deadline-intensive environment is essential.
