Overview

Radio Free Asia (RFA) is a private, Washington, DC-based, nonprofit corporation that provides accurate and timely news and information to Asian countries whose governments prohibit access to a free press. We are seeking a creative, highly skilled Newsroom Analytics Specialist.

As part of the audience engagement team, your role will use data to gain a deep understanding of our audience's needs and their behaviors on digital platforms. You will collaborate with teams across the newsroom to continuously evaluate strategies and identify new opportunities to better connect RFA reporting to audiences across multiple platforms and formats (text, audio video). You are creative in your analysis and can clearly communicate data-informed results and recommendations.

This is a 12-month assignment position, with the possibility of transition into a full-time permanent role after the term ends.

Responsibilities

Monitor and analyze audience and traffic data across multiple digital platforms, including websites, social media, podcasts and appsProvide clear insights, projections and actionable recommendations to editorial stakeholders of all levels that inform growth strategies aligned with RFA's values and objectivesManage implementation of analytics solutions on digital platforms and administrate reporting tools including Adobe Analytics, Tealium, Chartbeat, and Emplifi in collaboration with product teams and external partnersBuild digital dashboards, data visualizations and scalable tools for data analysis using Microsoft Power BI, Google Data Studio, custom solutions, and other softwareConduct region-specific comparative analysis of competitors' digital presence and tactics to assess opportunities for expanding RFA's voice/reachCreate personas of RFA's existing and prospective audiences; conduct surveys of digital audiencesUse statistical computer languages to manipulate data and draw insights from large data setsSupport newsroom data culture by hosting and participating in training sessions that demonstrate data can be used in tactical and strategic decision-makingAdvocate for our audiences and ensure their needs are considered in strategic decision-making and content creationStay informed about industry developments, audience preferences, and digital media trends to provide recommendations and insights to the editorial and management teamsQualifications

Minimum of 3 years experience as a digital analyst within a news organization or similar media outletA successful history of manipulating, processing and extracting actionable insights from large, disconnected datasetsVery strong written and verbal communication skills; experience bringing clarity to insights for stakeholders of all seniority levelsDemonstrated experience with Excel, Google Sheets and deep knowledge of analytics tools including Chartbeat, Adobe Analytics, CrowdTangle and EmplifiFamiliarity with Tealium or other tag managers (Google, Adobe, etc.), as well as UTM, pixels and other data collection methodsProject management experience on cross-functional teamsAbility to collaborate across departments in a multilingual newsroom and with teams across multiple time zones
