Job Description - Officer School Security (24004832)Job Title: OFFICER – School SecurityJob Code: 85970FLSA: Non-ExemptSalary Plan: SupportPay Grade: SCH 09Funding Source: LocalDuration (months): 12 monthsWork Location: Department funded and working in schools & other locationsWork Schedule Code: WSC 001Job Summary: Assists in providing a safe and secure school environment, foster an optimal learning environment and act as a deterrent to unsafe or poor behavior by performing a variety of duties at schools or other locations, involving the protection of students, staff, patrons, and property of the district and fosters positive relations with the community.Department Name: Safety and Security DepartmentReports to: Manager School Security or Designated SupervisorPrimary Job Duties/Responsibilities:Under the direction, helps implement School Safety and Security Programs, including emergency response operations and searches.Actively respond to incidents, fights, or other issues in the school or throughout the district that threaten the safety of students, staff, and/or guests up to and including physical intervention if warranted by the safety risk.Patrols school properties to prevent, discover, and report burglaries, trespass, vandalism, thefts, arson, and other unlawful activities on all MNPS property, and to identify, report, and correct security and safety violations.Position Specific Responsibilities:Takes appropriate actions and carries out assignments intended to protect students, staff, visitors, and school properties.Responds to calls and complaints received from burglar and fire alarm dispatchers, school personnel, and citizens regarding unsafe conditions or illegal activity on school properties.Develops facts and makes them available in report form to supervisory personnel and appropriate agencies.Deals effectively and maintains good relations with school personnel, students, parents, and law enforcement representatives.Knowledgeable and skilled in conducting searches of individuals, vehicles, and their possessions, including the use of handheld and walk-through metal detectors.Other Responsibilities: Performs other duties or tasks as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the responsibilities in this job classification.Education and Experience Requirements:Education (training/degree): High school diploma or GED required. Associate's degree preferred.Licenses, Certifications or Registrations Required: Must possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s license.
