This position is responsible for the installation, testing, repair and inspection of the Municipal Light Plant’s (“MLP”) fiber in an inside and outside plant environment. This includes prep, tray, and splice fiber optic cables ranging from single fiber to 432 count fiber to include ribbon and loose tube. Three years’ experience of splicing fiber is required.The incumbent will install, repair, splice, test, troubleshoot and maintain all MLP owned fiber optic systems in businesses, homes, schools, and other organizations to ensure that they are working properly. Performs service calls at customer locations as necessary and is available for emergency response. He/she must have the ability to utilize fiber optic computer software applications and have knowledge of operating and using fiber optic splice equipment. Knowledge of fiber optic theory which includes fiber loss, connector types, and the different types of fibers is essential. The Fiber Splicer must be able to communicate effectively and read splicing matrix and design drawings. The incumbent must be familiar with computers, including utilizing MS Excel and OSP Insight or equivalent to document and retrieve splice information.Excellent health and retirement benefits along with a competitive salary; great career opportunity.
