The Assistant State’s Attorney is associated with various legal functions of the County such as conducting lawsuits, case litigation, gathering evidence, and trial strategies. This position reports to the State’s Attorney. The position is located in Watford City, ND and scheduled for Monday – Friday. Level and salary commensurate with experience.Responsible for gathering and managing evidence in civil, criminal, juvenile, and traffic cases. Presenting information in court to prosecute or defend actionsAdvise law enforcement on how to follow various constitutional requirements and protectionsAdvise law enforcement officers, prepare and present warrant applications, and conduct probable cause hearingsConduct legal research and prepare legal correspondence, pleadings, briefs, and opinionsAdvise elected and appointed officials and county employees as to their legal rights, represent County agencies in legal proceedingsMeets regularly with and works extensively with a variety of Government, Social Service, and Law Enforcement organizations and special committeesPerforms other duties of a similar nature or levelLicense to practice law in North DakotaJuris DoctorateOne (1) year of experience in criminal litigationTwo (2) years of experience in active law practice; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the jobApplicable Federal, State, and local laws, rules, and regulationsJudicial and administrative procedures and rules of evidenceComputer and related software applications
