The Body Technician is a skilled craftsman with a thorough understanding of all phases of light to heavy collision repair. The Body Technician must be a skilled welder with the ability to remove and refit welded panels as well as the bolt-on items required in a typical crash repair.Job Responsibilities:Disassemble vehiclesRefit new parts such as bumpers, fenders, grills, moldings, and other bolt-on and welded itemsPerform small to heavy repair, finishing, and priming jobsComplete all repairs in a manner in which the repaired areas are restored to the original manufacturer’s specifications, including door, hood, and deck alignments, chassis and frame measurements, and welded-on unibody partsWork independently and with others with a minimum of supervisionCheck all parts for accuracy before starting the repair and notify the parts manager of any incorrect parts or other discrepanciesImmediately notify the production manager of any hidden or missed damage that doesn’t appear on the repair orderAdvise the Production Manager as you are nearing completion of a job and request a new assignmentPut forth every effort to meet and exceed the target delivery date assigned to an ROAssume responsibility for all parts assigned to your job(s)Protect the interior and exterior non-repair areas from dust, dirt, scratches, primer, overspray, etc.Paint edges of panels and parts as needed to meet customer requirements, given proper training is conducted and equipment is providedRead and understand every line item of each vehicle’s RO as pertaining to your responsibilities and visually inspect every vehicle to ensure that all the repairs are completeProvide guidance, education, and assistance to the assigned apprentice in such a manner that furthers their developmental growthSkills/Qualifications:Complete understanding of all facets of light to heavy automobile collision repair.The ability to read, understand, and perform written instructions accurately and consistently and to work independently and with others in an organized manner is essential.The ability to effectively manage the activities of a body tech team is mandatory.I-CAR Gold Class and ASE certification is a plusBehavioral Excellence Required:Present a friendly, pleasant, accommodating, cheerful, courteous, helpful, outgoing disposition toward fellow employees at all timesPromote a positive spirit of teamwork within the companyMaintain a well groomed appearanceMaintain a clean, organized work area at all timesPerform all assigned activities according to the Standardized Operating Procedures of the companyContinuously strive to improve the efficiency of the production department and overall company operation, and be willing to participate in company meetingsParticipate in training programs as required to maintain the technical and professional skills and techniques necessary for this positionExtend normal working hours as necessary to accommodate workload and customer requirements
