It’s possible!As the Sr. Payroll Manager you will lead payroll operations with an ongoing focus on process improvement and documentation. You will play a significant role in the implementation of payroll policies, procedures and practices, focusing on maintaining high levels of accuracy and timeliness as well as creating a world class payroll department.What You’ll Do:Responsible for ensuring Payroll processing is performed accurately and timely for all James Hardie businesses in the US and Canada; 40%.Oversee centralized payroll for all US and Canadian operations, in multiple states and across different employee groups: 10 manufacturing plants, 2 R&D centers and 2 corporate offices. Approximately 3,000 employees.Oversee the payment administration of wages, bonuses, equity compensation and all other company benefit payments.Interpret for employees and management staff policies and regulations as they relate to the payroll function.Review and approve all earnings, deductions and tax calculations in the payroll system.Ensure compliance with Federal and State wage and hour laws.Coordinate wage and tax reconciliation with vendor and ensure tax compliance.Manage Year End process, W-2's and 1099R's.Provide data to Finance, Treasury, and others as needed to support accounting, operations and analysis.Coordinates with payroll processing vendor (ADP) on regular payroll issues, 401(K) and deferred compensation reconciliation.Lead the payroll department in the execution of standardized payroll processes and all aspects of the payroll cycle, establishing appropriate checks and balances to ensure payroll compliance, accuracy and timeliness; 30%.Initiate and promote continual process improvements within the payroll department to align with business goals, working closely with cross-functional partners.Develop and maintain written departmental payroll policies and procedures along with audits and controls for those procedures.Analyze, audit, reconcile and resolve payroll issues to ensure smooth payroll processing under only limited supervision.Maintain current knowledge of appropriate laws and legal requirements and able to quickly implement system/process changes in response to new legal requirements.Serve as an escalated employee contact to resolve issues regarding payroll, leave accruals, wage deductions, fringe benefits, and other pay related issues.Responsible for coordination of efforts, processes, and communication regarding payroll issues between HR, IT, Legal, and Benefits departments as well as with the rest of the organization.Perform gross-to-net payroll calculation and the release and distribution of payroll checks.Generate special “off-cycle” payroll runs for bonus checks and stock options as required.In collaboration with HR Operations, IS and others, evaluate and analyze existing payroll policies, procedures and business processes; draft, propose and implement changes and/or quality control measures leading to best practice operations.Provide Leadership to payroll team, develop staff to operate with functional excellence; 30%.Build and maintain strong cross-functional partnerships with HR, HRIS and operating teams.Supervise payroll team for bi-weekly payroll processing and payroll reporting, including creating and running complex reports in ADPR Reporting.Develop, manage and cross-train staff to build a best in class team.Leadership skills with strong experience in managing performance, setting expectations and developing a team.What You’ll Bring:Required:Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting field preferred.Minimum 7+ years of total payroll experience.3+ years of work experience with UKG Payroll and Kronos (UKG Workforce Central), including creating and running complex reports in ADPR Reporting.5+ years of progressive payroll management experience.Experience managing a multi-state payroll for over 4,000 employees.Leadership skills with strong experience in managing performance, setting expectations and developing a team.CPP certification highly desired.Detailed knowledge of Federal and State tax compliance and garnishments.Ability to develop, improve, document and provide high quality deliverables.Advanced Excel skills.Strong oral and written communication skills.Understands the team concept, has a strong desire to be a contributing teammate and ability to operate cross-functionally with HR and Operations teams.An energetic, hands-on individual with a strong bias for action, someone who commits himself/herself fully to stretch goals, is receptive to ongoing coaching and development and who is dedicated to delivering outstanding results.Excellent interpersonal and written/oral communication skills.
