Position Overview
Student will assist staff or faculty in supporting students with disabilities and their accommodations.
Hours per Week 20 - 25 hours per week. M-F, 8-5pm, flexibility offered for class schedule. College/Department Overview
Disability Support Services (DSS) determines appropriate housing and academic accommodations and coordinates auxiliary aids for students with disabilities in addition to serving as a resource to the University community.
Department Specific Job Functions
Assist with administering and proctoring alternative testing in the DSS Testing Center. Assists students with questions pertaining to software and assistive technology on lab computers. Monitor and maintain the DSS lab at NUC 305. Assist in software/hardware maintenance of accessible workstations across campus. Provide tier 1 level support for all office computers and technology in DSS office space - this includes installing software, troubleshooting hardware and software issues, and assisting users with various technical issues. Migrate users' files from their old computer to a new computer. Assist with the creation and execution of training sessions. Assist in providing accessible textbooks for students with disabilities. Assist with the maintenance of DSS hardware inventory. Answer general questions of students/visitors to DSS inquiring about accommodations. Enrollment Requirements
Fall/Spring Semesters : All student employees must be enrolled at least half-time to be eligible to work any UCO student position. Half-time enrollment for fall/spring semesters is considered 5 hours for graduates and 6 hours for undergraduates. International students must be enrolled full-time to be eligible to work as a student employee. Full-time enrollment is 9 credit hours for graduates and 12 credit hours for undergraduates.
Summer Semester : Student employees working regular student positions must be enrolled in at least 3 credit hours to be eligible to work during the summer. Students not enrolled in summer classes must be enrolled in fall classes in order to work during the summer, but they (and the department) will be required to pay FICA taxes. Student employees working FWSP positions must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours (if undergraduate) or 5 credit hours (if graduate) in order to work during the summer in a Federal Work Study Program position.
Enrollment Exception : If the number of credit hours needed to graduate is less than the minimum number of hours required for student employment, the student must obtain a letter from their Academic Advisor (stating the number of hours needed to graduate and anticipated graduation date) and submit it to Human Resources. Qualifications/Experience Preferred
Computer-related major (MIS, CS, etc.). Prior lab or technical job experience. Knowledge of computer hardware and software. Ability to troubleshoot technology related problems. Willing to learn new things. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Sensitivity of intercultural communication. Good interpersonal skills. Dependable. Punctual.
