Responsibilities General Purpose: Responsible for the conceptual design, creation, delivery, and support of applications that facilitate the strategic direction of the School of Medicine and Dentistry. Plans, designs, interprets requirements, programs, tests, trains, and collaborates with a team and support staff, as well as assists with generating innovative technical solutions to assigned initiatives. Manages successful deployment and implementation. Performs all facets of the software development lifecycle. Takes existing programming projects from key function areas and adds value to the end product Provides technical oversight to projects related to hardware/software training, requirements analysis, database design, resolution of data security issues, and the development of data management tools and applications needed to support the School of Medicine and Dentistry. Works closely with research faculty and staff, study team designers, programmers, and external vendors and collaborators. Specific Responsibilities: 25% Develops applications that support the School of Medicine and Dentistry research and operations. The Analyst Programmer is responsible for maintaining and updating the coding t at supports the full application development lifecycle, with the ability to deliver both client and web-based solutions. Modifies existing applications relative to requirements or configurations and recommends necessary action{s). 5% Collaborates with other programmers to accomplish successful outcomes and move forward with design and implementation activities. 20% Provides consultation to clients in programming, database use and reporting to assess data preparation and management needs, program design and testing. 10% Offers solutions and suggestions to provide optimum efficiency and cost effectiveness. Employs best practices and robust techniques to minimize the risk of data loss or compromised access. 20% Develops documentation and provides technical training and workshops to faculty and staff. Keeps abreast of trends by self-study, attending job related seminars, courses or conferences which enhance personal development and strengthens the user service function. 20% Debugs and tests code and modules to ensure accurate operations of the application. Performs unit testing and other efficient techniques to ensure compliance with applicable regulations and best security practices. Documents code in support of facilitating the testing and debugging process. Performs other related duties, including presentation of seminars, courses and instruction on services, as assigned. Requirements: Bachelor's degree in related discipline such as Computer Science, Business, Mathematics, Statistics, Science or Engineering; and 3-4 years of related experience, preferably 1-2 years in a supervisory capacity; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Master's degree preferred. Basic experience with Microsoft SQL and/or MySQL, basic experience with web programming and scripting languages (HTML, PHP, JavaScript, VBA). Experience with PHP programming, MySQL, SQL query development, and end-user support preferred. Service-oriented with excellent verbal and written communication and organization skills. Excellent interpersonal skills. Must be able to work with customers and understand and translate their functional needs into technical requirements and user-friendly documentation. Ability to successfully negotiate and collaborate with others of different skill sets, backgrounds and levels within and external to the organization. Knowledge of relational database structures and structured query language {SQL) preferred. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the jobs compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
