The Division of Family and Child Health (DFCH) of the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene is charged with the creation and oversight of programs, policies, services, and environments that support physical and socio-emotional health, and promote primary and reproductive health services, health equity, social justice, safety and well-being for New York City families and children. The Division is comprised of the Bureau of Maternal Infant and Reproductive Health, the Bureau of Early Intervention, the Office of School Health, and the Bureau of Administration. DUTIES WILL INCLUDE BUT NOT BE LIMITED TO:

Under the supervision of the High School Nursing Director and High School Nursing Supervisors; they supervises, assigns, schedules, directs, and evaluates the work performance of staff of the High School Program, including staff nurses, public health advisors, and public health assistants. The high school program is inclusive of most high schools in the New York City public school system. The High School Public Health Nurse III will be responsible for the following: Serving as Office of School Health representative responsible for 30-35 nurses; PH Advisors; PH Assistants,Acting as a liaison between School System Administrators and the Office of School HealthServing as a resource to the Regional school staff, parents, and community agenciesOverseeing and monitoring the implementation of Office of School Health programs, policies and special projects within an assigned areaReviewing and approving City-time and timesheets for staff and completing annual tasks and standards and performance evaluations for staff in assigned areaSupervising Office of School Health staff within an assigned areaProviding assignments and schedules for nursing and paraprofessional staffUtilizing Automated Student Health Record (ASHR) to generate reportsConducting in-service trainings and planning staff development activitiesParticipating in recruitment and orientation of new staffAnalyzing data collected in OSH management reports, i.e. walk ins, case management and special projectsParticipating in disciplinary activities as neededConducting site visits to school to provide clinical supervision of nurses, advisors, and assistants,Collaborating with the OSH team (Supervising Medical Doctors, Adolescent Health, Vision team, Mental health team, etc.) to plan initiatives within the assigned areaMonitoring inventory of medical supplies and equipment within a designed area.

Qualifications

1. A Bachelor's of Science degree in Nursing from a regionally-accredited college or university or one recognized by the New York State Education Department as following acceptable educational practices;and2. A license and current registration to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State. This license must be maintained for the duration of employment.

Medical Requirement: Medical guidelines have been established for the position of Public Health Nurse. Candidates will be examined to determine whether they can perform the essential functions of the position of Public Health Nurse.
