JOB SUMMARY
The Nurse Midwife provides well-woman, antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum care to patients with uncomplicated obstetrical and gynecological needs. Participates in taking medical histories, assesses medical condition and prepares patient care plans. Prepares and maintains records, writes reports, and responds to correspondence. The Nurse Midwife participates in/supports a team-based approach to care in the Patient Centered Specialty Practice (PCSP) and participates in activities related to Quality Improvement.

* Provides inpatient and outpatient obstetrical and gynecological care to patients under approved guidelines and in collaboration with consulting physician.* Obtains complete medical, family, and obstetrical history and physical data on OB patients. Reviews patient records.* Performs obstetrical/gynecological exams and records findings. Assesses patients and prepares a plan of care.* Orders, evaluates, and reviews appropriate laboratory tests and diagnostic procedures.* Participate in labor and delivery coverage. Delivers obstetrical care. Completes and signs labor and delivery records.* Administers medications. Instructs patient and family regarding medications and treatment instructions.* Identifies learning needs of patients and their families; develops and employs formal and informal teaching strategies and evaluates their effectiveness. Recommends community resources to meet patient and family needs.* Provides for the age-specific needs of the population served according to established standards.* Provides immediate care to the newborn child.* Assumes leadership role to help solve patient care problems and other issues related to the practice in concert with GLBHC management.* Participates in GLBHC group activities and meetings as requested.* Assists in the development and implementation of peer review and quality improvement activities.* Prepares and maintains patient records, writes reports, responds to incoming correspondence and completes all required billing documentation.

* Attends required meetings and participated in committees as requested. Participates in professional development activities and maintains professional affiliations.* Develops and maintains department quality assurance and quality control standards.* May participate in and/or initiate clinical research studies.* Assists with orientation of new staff. May function as preceptor for students.* Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED JOB SPECIFICATIONS
* Education: Graduate of an accredited School of Nurse-Midwifery. Certified by ACNM.* Licensure: Must possess current Michigan Registered Nurse license and current Michigan Nurse Midwife license. Current CPR certification.* Experience: One year of professional nursing experience in an OB setting.* Skills: Ability to communicate clearly. Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures. Ability to function. independently and consistently exercise discretion and judgment in performing work.* Interpersonal Skills: Ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations. Maintains a professional appearance and demeanor at all. times.* Physical Effort: Must be able to sit, stand, and or walk for an entire workday. Must be able to lift, carry, push, pull, and or twist while holding up to 25 lbs. frequently.* Hours of Work: Full-time, flexible, and varied. Includes evening and weekend call coverage as assigned.* Travel: Some local travel and travel to remote practice sites required. May also travel to conferences or training. sessions. Reimbursement in accordance with contract and GLBHC policy.

* Education: Master's Degree preferred. Certified by ACNM.* Licensure: Current provider of neonatal resuscitation also, course preferred.* Experience: Previous experience as a fully credentialed Certified Midwife preferred.
