Driving various makes and models of CNG transit buses and diesel body-on-chassis buses on predetermined routes on narrow streets through high pedestrian and vehicle traffic areas.2. Using defensive driving techniques to operate buses safely during the day and at night in all weather conditions, including but not limited to rain, snow, ice, fog, etc.3. Maintaining established time schedules when servicing designated bus stops on fixed routes.4. Providing the highest quality transportation and related services to guestsGreet passengers at each stop with a smile,Answer guests questions (e.g., about the bus route, location of exhibits, hours of operation, other points of interest, etc.)Assist passengers who need help boarding or leaving the bus,Work with guests to find options to resolve transportation related problems,Keep passengers up-to-date on issues that could affect transportation service (e.g., route changes, etc.).5. Maintaining orderUse verbal persuasion to encourage compliance with safety requirements and to maintain order on the bus,Manage crowds on the bus and at bus stops to assure safe and orderly loading and unloading of passengers.6. Following established procedures to assure buses are properly maintained and safe for useConduct DOT compliant pre-trip inspections and document the inspections on the Bus Drivers Daily Pre-Trip Inspection Forms,Inspect buses to assure they have been properly serviced and cleaned before they are used,Document and report maintenance defects.7. Following established routine procedures while operating buses on assigned routes:Maintain radio contact with the Dispatcher's Office;Keep the dispatcher advised of conditions or problems that cause deviations from the schedule;Respond to instructions and route changes from the dispatcher;Count passengers boarding the bus on each trip and record the total on the Trip Sheet;Play the appropriate pre-recorded messages at the proper points along the routes;Make special announcements and call stops as required;Check buses after each trip for lost articles and turn over any found items to the Dispatcher or to Lost and Found;Keep brochure racks on the bus filled.Complete necessary paperwork at the end of each shift8. Driving special groups as directed.9. Tasks Involving Physical ActivitySit in one position driving a transit bus or body-on-chassis bus for extended periods of timeLift and/or carry wheelchairs or strollersPush guests in non-powered wheelchairs up and down bus ADA rampsSquat, crouch, kneel, bend, or stoop to secure and un-secure wheelchair tie-downsOperate wheelchair ramp manuallyReach overhead or stoop to retrieve objectsHook up and unhook CNG fuel linesClean drivers area of buses and assist with general bus cleaningSecure the Tour Bus Drivers lounge as necessary10. Environmental Factors and Working ConditionsExposure to the following atmospheric conditions:o Direct sunlighto High temperatures (above 95 degrees)o Low temperatures (below 30 degrees)o Sudden temperature changes (more than 30 degrees)o Humidity (high or low)o High or low air pressure conditionso Snow and iceo High windsExposure to the following irritants:o Dusto Smokeo Allergenic substances (e.g., bee stings, pollens, animal dander)o Other toxic/poisonous substances (e.g., carbon monoxide, chemical irritants, natural gas)Adverse physical surroundings:o Slippery surfaces (e.g., wet grass, wet pavement/brick sidewalks, etc.)o Uneven surfaces (e.g., cobblestones, brick sidewalks, gravel surfaces, etc.)o Extreme vibrations (as might occur while driving on rough pavement)o Confined areas or work that requires awkward or confined body positions (e.g., securing and un-securing wheelchair tie downs)Adverse vision and hearing conditions:o Poor lighting (e.g., glare, night vision conditions)o Fogo Noise (e.g., bus engine, road noise, passenger noise)o Faint soundso Other poor auditory conditions (e.g., distracting background noise, radio interference, multiple auditory stimuli)Adverse working conditions:o Irregular/extended work hours (including frequently fluctuating work hours and work schedule)o Job pressure/stress working with the publico Prolonged sittingSUPERVISION TO BE EXERCISED:Direct: N/AIndirect: N/ADIRECTION RECEIVED:General supervision from the Bus Operations Supervisors.QUALIFICATIONS: (List minimum knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job successfully.)Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; thorough knowledge of Virginia traffic laws; must be able to exercise good judgment under stress with limited supervision; must have excellent public contact skills, including the ability to deal with people in stressful situations generally gained through completion of a 10th grade education plus three years bus driving experience within the past ten years. Must have no history of criminal convictions, other than minor traffic violations; must have an excellent driving record with no convictions within the past 5 years for driving while intoxicated or impaired, leaving the scene of an accident, reckless driving, or texting while driving; no convictions within the past 3 years for speeding in excess of 15 mph over the speed limit or any other major moving violation (including, but not limited to failure to obey traffic signs or signals, driving with a suspended or revoked license, careless when not cited as reckless, driving the wrong way on a one-way street, or an at fault accident), or within the past 3 years more than 1**Qualifications****Skills****Behaviors****:****Motivations****:****Education****Experience****Licenses & Certifications**
