Position Description

CWCLA is seeking an enthusiastic, skilled, and creative Special Education/RSP Teacher to be a part of a team of educators working to provide a challenging and inclusive education for students with disabilities. We are looking for individuals with a passion for working with children with disabilities and the desire to work with a highly collaborative staff. S/he will collaborate with teachers, parents, and other professionals to create safe, healthy, and supportive learning environments that strengthen connections between home, school, and the community for all students.

The Special Education/RSP Teacher job responsibilities include:

Developing curriculum maps, lessons, and units of study that meet or exceed requirements of Common Core Standards and also incorporate the multiple intelligences.

Regularly assessing student progress and achievement using various means to collect and report on academic data.

Using data to tailor instruction to meet individual student academic and social needs with a goal of every student performing on grade level or above in all subject areas.

Participating in professional development activities, both internal and external.

Maintaining a high level of professionalism including meeting deadlines and commitments to self, students, and the community.

Monitoring and implementing the school’s compliance with student Individual Education Plans (IEP), maintaining active and up-to-date records.

Monitoring and implementing the School’s Special Education Program, including timely responses to parent inquiries and student assessment.

Supporting and leading the convening of the Student Support (Success) Teams.

Conferring with teachers, school leaders, and other personnel to aid in the development of educational programming and support.

Overseeing and implementing the school’s Response to Intervention program.

The ideal candidate will have the following experience/traits:

A Bachelor’s degree and California Education Specialist teaching credential; A valid CA English Learner authorization.

Minimum of two years experience teaching in relevant grades.

Experience working in a socio-economically, racially, and culturally diverse classroom setting.

Ability to effectively manage and instruct both small and large groups of students.

Fluency in a second language (ideally Spanish or Korean) is preferred.

The candidate must have:

Maturity, humility, strong work ethic, sense of humor, and a can-do attitude.

Belief and willingness to ensure that all students can learn and achieve at high levels.

Strong communication skills, verbally and in writing, with a diverse audience.

Experience working with diverse populations, including English language learners and students with special needs.

Excitement about learning and implementing new teaching methods.

Excellent collaboration and interpersonal skills.

Staff and reporting relationships

Teachers will report to the Principal and Assistant Principal of the School.
