The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) is seeking a forward thinking, highly motivated individual, with strong communication skills and technical knowledge, to coordinate and assist the data management efforts of UDOT’s asset data stewards. Responsibilities include researching and implementing programs, processes, and technological improvements/innovations that will: (1) foster improved data consistency, quality and reporting; (2) eliminate redundancies; (3) streamline current data collection activities and/or work processes; and (4) facilitate data-driven decision making.Principle DutiesData analysis and integration to support Asset Management needs, including training UDOT personnel in data governance and data management principles and practices.Collaborate with data managers, stewards, custodians, and analysts to improve data management and data governance across the Department.Participate in Department meetings as needed to discuss data issues and concepts.Provide business support to the Division of Technology Services (DTS) and consultant staff in data architecture efforts to ensure seamless integration of data systems.Identify training needs. Develop and deliver training to system users.Provide technical support to end users and agency management on all business functions and processes encompassed in the supported systems.Recommend system enhancements, modifications, tools and other technical solutions to meet agency needs.Design, develop, and implement robust API solutions to extract data from various software applications.Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand data requirements and ensure seamless integration with UDOT systems.Optimize API performance and troubleshoot issues to ensure reliable data extraction.Utilize Google Cloud Platform (GCP) services for collecting, storing, and processing large volumes of data.Implement efficient data pipelines to ingest, transform, and load data into accessible and secure storage solutions.Work with cloud-based technologies to ensure scalability, reliability, and security of data.Design and implement data models to support UDOT analytics and reporting needs.Develop data transformation processes to cleanse, enrich, and structure data for analysis.Collaborate with data scientists, analysts, and other stakeholders to understand data requirements and deliver tailored solutions.Comprehensively document API integrations, data pipelines, and data models.Update documentation with any changes or enhancements to the data infrastructure.Support federal data submittals to comply with federal requirements.Analyze the impacts of new or modified software on existing standards and practices.Meet with vendors on new and existing products, evaluate usefulness and cost of products and make recommendations.Research, investigate, and recommend technologies including web, mobile and other new or emerging technologies.Support and document software implementations and integrations.Champion improvement to data quality, consistency, and accuracy.Track and fulfill data requests, data usage, and log critical issues.Create and maintain data dictionaries, metadata, and indexes.Prepare data information reports for internal groups, present and discuss data issues.Create and support data governance policies and procedures.Other tasks or duties as assigned.The Ideal CandidateThe best person for this position:Has a Bachelor's degree, or higher, in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Management or another related field OR equivalent experience.Has at least five years of data science experience.Is familiar with a basic computer language such as SQL or Python.The position may be underfilled as a Senior Business Analyst for those who do not have the education and/or experience listed above.
