The Faculty Handbook is the authoritative guide on specific requirements with regard to teaching assignments, scholarly activity, research, and service.The University Archivist works closely with the local community to develop and promote relevant collections, particularly the Colorado Chicano Movement Archives. The Archivist facilitates the community-driven acquisition, digitization, and preservation of, as well as access to, archival materials. The position develops and oversees a small Special Collections area including rare books and manuscripts, consults with other departments across campus to ensure the University complies with state guidelines for the retention, preservation, and disposal of important documents, and collects, organizes, preserves, and provides access to both print and electronic University administrative and historical records.As a member of the library faculty, the Archivist may also be involved and engaged in the entire life-cycle of research, teaching and learning, and outreach processes, including reference and collection development.The Archivist may have the opportunity to teach credit-bearing courses in archives management.Primary DutiesManage University Archives and Special CollectionsDevelop new and existing special collections; especially the University’s Colorado Chicano Movement Archives (CCMA)Manage current and potential donor relationsUsing current technology and software, obtain, inventory, process, organize, preserve and provide access to archival materials, including creating finding aids for archival collectionsExpand existing oral history programIdentify, develop, and supervise digitization projects, including developing standards, digitizing records, creating metadata using appropriate metadata schemaInsert collections into institutional repositoryConsult and collaborate with units across campus to ensure records retention and management for all University departments complies with the state records retention schedule.Provide one-on-one reference assistance in the Archives and via email, chat, text, and phoneEngage in OutreachFacilitate the CCMA Community Advisory CommitteeCollaborate with the community to promote the CCMAPlan community outreach events and educational sessionsPromote the Archives and the Aztlán Research Center locally, regionally, and nationallyDevelop partnerships with other local and regional centers with similar research agendasManage student workers and internsSupervise student internsHire, train, supervise, and evaluate student assistantsCollaborate with Faculty to provide instruction and promote research including:Teach sessions on the use of archives for various classes across the curriculumCollaborate with the Chicano Studies Coordinator to engage students in archival research and oral history collectionPromote faculty and student research that augments the collectionsPerform sustained inquiry into one’s discipline, leading to a practical application within the library as well as research resulting in published or presented scholarly output.Serve the library, the university, and the profession through active membership on boards, committees, panels, etc.Ancillary DutiesTeach credit bearing Archives Management coursesSalary Range$50,000 - $63,000Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal RightsMinimum QualificationsMaster’s degree in Library Science (ALA accredited) or related archives disciplinePreferred QualificationsALA accredited Masters in Library Science if first Master’s degree is not MLSMasters or PhD in discipline related to Chicanx, Indigenous, Ethnic, or Southwest StudiesAcademy of Certified Archivists CertificationDemonstrated knowledge of Chicano Studies or Southwest StudiesExperience in a position requiring collaboration with diverse groups and effective communication of ideasDemonstrated planning and leadership skills, with prior experience requiring working independently, take initiative, and setting goals and priorities3 years professional experience post-degreeExperience building community-based archivesExperience working with Chicanx/Latinx community groupsExperience managing an archives in an institution of higher education or equivalentExperience with digitization and metadata creationExperience managing records retentionExperience managing oral history collection projectsTeaching/Library Instruction experienceExperience seeking and acquiring external fundingExperience managing grantsExperience at a regional comprehensive universityExperience at a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI)Supplemental InformationAll interested candidates must apply through the online application system.
