La Rabida Children’s Hospital is hiring a Full-Time Quality Improvement/Safety Specialist for the Quality department in Chicago, IL.

Job Summary:The Quality Improvement/Safety Specialist will be responsible for the identification and implementation of process improvement activities that align with the hospital’s mission to deliver high quality patient care, continually improve patient safety, and to meet accreditation and regulatory reporting requirements. The Quality and Safety lead specialist will facilitate and contribute to the optimization of hospital performance by improving patient health outcomes, patient experience, safety for patients and staff.

Essential Quality Improvement/Safety Specialist Functions:

Identification, oversight, and implementation of continuous quality improvement projects and process improvement plans, leading organizational quality efforts in support of La Rabida strategic goals.

Participates in an annual analysis and development of the quality workplan.

Daily review of incident reporting, conducting a complete analysis and the development of follow-up.

Supports special projects as assigned by the Chief Nursing Officer, Chief Medical Officer, and Director of Quality, Risk, and Compliance as needed.

Quality improvement metric data collection, organization, trending, and analysis.

Identifies need for, performs, and delegates quality audits, chart reviews, and reviews of systems per hospital needs utilizing and analyzing operational data.

Knowledge and application of state and federal regulations and requirements of JCAHO and other regulatory standards required.

Report writing as needed to maintain record of quality initiatives, and work plans.

Preparation and presentation of data-driven quality, safety metrics and initiatives, including quarterly Quality presentation to the Patient Safety Quality team and Quality Board of Directors.

Facilitates cross functional reviews of incident reports, unplanned transfers, codes, and overarching organizational quality, collaborates with directors and managers to ensure implementation of action plans for identified process improvements, monitors and ensures process improvement sustainability.

Monitors internal and external quality and safety trends to identify priorities for process improvement.

Develops and delivers quality and safety training to hospital staff at all levels and shifts.

Use of clinical knowledge in data analysis, problem and trend identification and management.

Ability to investigate and determine quality concerns using evidenced based problem solving and development of improvement strategies.

Policy oversight with review, recommendations and development with understanding that is in alignment of regulatory standards, quality, risk, and compliance.

Ability to independently identify quality or safety concerns and develop process improvement strategies, and work with leadership in collaboration.

Identifies business or process problems and options for solving problem utilizing quality tools such as root causes Analysis (RCA) or PDSA.

Oversight of Safety and knowledge of emergency management, assisting with education and drills.

What we need from you:

BSN in nursing required.

MSN/MS preferred.

Minimum 3 years of nursing practice required.

Minimum 2-3 years of Quality required.

Pediatric experience preferred.

Illinois Licensed Registered Nurse Required.

Certification by the National Association for Healthcare Quality preferred.

Certification from the American Hospital Association / American Society for Healthcare Risk Managers as a Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management (CPHRM) preferred.

CPR Required (issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross).

PALS preferred.
