Applicants will be considered for courses occurring January 2025 through March 2025.Instructors serve a key role in certificate programs, engaging with students, serving as subject matter experts, presenting learning content, and assessing whether learners have achieved course competencies. PCE students consistently say that the instructor is the single most important element of their course.The pay range for instructor positions is $1600-1800 per CEU* per course, commensurate with experience and qualifications. As co-instructors share course responsibilities, co-instructor salary will be prorated based on assigned duties. Specific appointment type of instructor or co-instructor will be assigned based on programmatic need.About the Certificate in Embedded & Real-time Systems ProgrammingThis program is designed for Developers and technical professionals with experience programming in the C or C++ languages who want to acquire the skills needed to develop embedded and real-time software for microcontrollers and microprocessors. Instructors are experienced in the field and bring their expertise and vision to the class to the next generation of practitioners. Content with suggested reading, assignments, discussion prompts is provided. Instructors are free to update the course according to their preference with the buy-in of the Program Manager. Classes are offered in the evenings Pacific Standard Time online via Zoom.Professional and Continuing Education Instructors...Teach to a set curriculum plan with learning outcomes and competenciesPrepare a course syllabus in advance of the course start date (templates provided)Ensure that lesson plans and presentation materials are updated to reflect predominant best practicesTeach all class sessions at the scheduled timeRespond to student inquiries and provide feedback on student assignments in a timely mannerCoordinate with other instructors and the Program Manager in the certificate program, to ensure curriculum continuity across coursesAdapt instructional techniques based on feedback from students and the Program Manager, and implement sound pedagogical practicesComplete instructor onboarding, relevant learning technology training, and other training as requiredObserve FERPA, HIPAA, and other privacy laws and policiesParticipate in 1-2 instructor meetings and information sessions per yearUWC2 Extension Lecturers / Instructors are Academic Staff, not faculty. This is a part-time, temporary position.Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSBachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, related field, or equivalent experience.Professional Experience

Minimum 3 years of experience in embedded systems design and development.Proficient in C and C++ programming, with substantial hands-on experience.Demonstrated experience with ARM architecture and ARM assembly programming.Practical knowledge of real-time operating systems (RTOS), including experience in porting and using RTOS.Experience in debugging embedded systems using in-circuit debugging techniques.

Technical Skills

Strong understanding of computer architecture and hardware from a software perspective.Expertise in developing firmware and device drivers.Experience in multithreaded programming and event-driven systems.Familiarity with hardware schematics and the ability to analyze and improve hardware performance.

Teaching and Communication Skills

Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to students with varying levels of expertise.Ability to develop and deliver course materials, including lectures, hands-on labs, and assessments.

Legal authorization to work and receive compensation in the United States. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.DESIRED QUALIFICATIONSFamiliarity with the Zephyr real-time operating system and best practices in embedded software design.Prior teaching experience or experience in conducting professional training/workshops.Ability to guide students through complete product lifecycle projects from requirements capture to testing and deployment.Application Instructions
