ManagerThe City of Portland is actively seeking a qualified and enthusiastic candidate to fill the role of Assistant Social Services Director. This individual will have prior experience in the social services field, including working with diverse populations and homeless individuals. Successful applicants will have proficient skills to work within various financial and administrative databases and be a proven leader. A demonstrated knowledge of laws, ordinances and human resources, and finance and safety regulations will be essential to successfully prepare budgets and complete regular administrative functions.The candidate in this position will collaborate with the Social Services Director to support multiple programs including the two largest homeless shelters in the state, the City’s Family Shelter, General Assistance, a Prevention & Diversion Program as well as one of the department's newest programs, HOPE (Housing Opportunities for People in Encampments).Qualified candidates will additionally meet the following criteria:Hold a bachelor's degree in public administration or related field, or have any equivalent combination of training and experience.Have minimum three years experience managing and supervising subordinate staff.Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.Ability to respond to departmental project needs in a timely manner, which at times may require flexible work schedules.Ability to develop long-term plans and programs and to make sound decisions on matters of policy and administrative problems.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinate employees, other governmental officials, the City Manager, the City Council, Department Heads, members of Boards and Commissions, and the general public.Experience working in a union environment preferred.Applications accepted until filled.Offers of employment are contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory criminal background check.Salary & Benefits:This is a non-union position (Grade C52) - Salary range starting at $83,941/year.The City of Portland prides itself on its outstanding benefits and collegial and mission-driven work environment.
