This vacancy is for a

Supervisory Survey Statistician

position in the Department of Commerce, located in the U.S. Census Bureau Regional Offices.Minimum Education Requirement:Degree: that included 15 semester hours in statistics (or in mathematics and statistics, provided at least 6 semester hours were in statistics), and 9 additional semester hours in one or more of the following: physical or biological sciences, medicine, education, or engineering; or in the social sciences including demography, history, economics, social welfare, geography, international relations, social or cultural anthropology, health sociology, political science, public administration, psychology, etc.Combination of education and experience - courses shown in above education requirements, plus appropriate experience or additional education. The experience should have included a full range of professional statistical work such as a) sampling, b) collection, computing and analyzing data, and c) applying statistical techniques such as measurements of central tendency, dispersion, skewness, sampling error, simple and multiple correlation, analysis of variance, and tests of significance.Specialized Experience:For GS-07:

One year of experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service. Experience includes applying standard statistical methods and analyses such as measures of central tendency and dispersion; and collecting data for surveys or studies, as a team member.For GS-09:

One year of experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service. Experience includes assisting in the design and development of specifications for data collection and data processing requirements for statistical studies and surveys.For GS-11:

One year of experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service. Experience includes designing and developing specifications for data collection and data processing requirements, operating procedures, training materials, and operational schedules for statistical studies and surveys.For GS-12:

One year of experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service. Experience includes leading a team to plan a statistical survey or study; developing survey and data collection specifications and establishing time schedules for various phases of survey operations.Education cannot be substituted for experience at this grade level.Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
