Invenia Group is partnering with a manufacturer of scientific reagents, instruments and services that are being used to accelerate scientific discovery. Research applications include next generation sequencing, gene discovery and editing, proteomics etc.
Due to growth, the company is looking to hire a Senior Patent Agent to join their team in San Jose, CA. This is an office-based role, however, the company has the flexibility to make it a hybrid for experienced candidates.
Candidates will be joining a stable company that values their employees and developing their skills and careers.
The role:
This role will work directly with the CSO and will be responsible for leading IP reviews on both internal and external IP – proposing key actions and strategies to strengthen the company’s core product IP, including the filing of new IP on new products coming out of R&D.
The Senior Patent Agent takes the leading role manage the prosecution and maintenance of the Company’s patent portfolio through the direction of outside counsel.
Responsibilities include:
Manage communication with and guide outside counsel for both domestic and foreign patent applications.
Work with R&D on the viability of potential patents for innovations
Review and prepare freedom-to-operate opinions on 3rd party IP in collaboration with outside counsel
Responsible for assigning products to relevant licenses for royalty reporting purposes.
Guide senior management in evaluating licensing and business transactions based on the review of relevant IP
Proposes strategies for developing the Company’s patent portfolio
Provide training to employees regarding the protection of intellectual property.
Maintain knowledge of relevant laws, regulations or statutes affecting the Company’s intellectual property.
Proposes IP expenditure budgets, based on the agreed strategy
What we are looking for:
PhD in a biological subject, an understanding of sequencing and molecular biology is desirable
Must be a USPTO registered Patent Agent.
5+ years of experience preparing and prosecuting patent applications, conducting patentability and freedom-to-operate searches
Have the ability to suggest strategies for IP
Experience with domestic and foreign patent applications.
Package:
Salary is $160K – $190K per year depending on experience plus a 15% bonus and full benefits.
