Masco Research and Development has an opportunity to hire a Materials Scientist to guide our business units in the areas related to the use of materials with a polymeric composition.Summary:

The position offers unique and exciting challenges owing to the vast array of products in Masco's portfolio. In this position, you will partner with multiple highly motivated and hardworking technical leaders around the organization to develop new products and optimize existing product lines. This will require developing applicable test approaches, interpreting data, and reporting findings to partners across our enterprise. As a team, we work together to manage ISO 17025 category accreditations with external agencies, and you will work within our quality system in support of these accreditations. As a team member, you will also be responsible for managing your laboratory equipment and maintaining a clean and organized environment.Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Work as part of a team of scientists and engineers at Masco R&D to provide technical support and consulting services to Masco operating companies.Conduct various testing strategies related to polymeric materials and surface finishes using laboratory testing equipment.Collaborate with operating companies to optimize existing product lines through manufacturing process improvements and material selection.Perform root-cause analysis studies to solve manufacturing and field problems related to polymers.Organize and write technical reports to document findings and recommendations.Maintain a clean and safe laboratory working environment, ensuring good laboratory housekeeping and recordkeeping.Contribute to the maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment to ensure accurate testing results.Experience & Qualifications:

Bachelor of Science in materials science, chemistry, polymer science, or related fields and 2+ years of related experience.Experience with Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) is required.Experience with thermal analyzers such as TGA, DSC, DMA is required.Experience with mechanical testing equipment such as tensile machines, impact testers, melting flow index is desirable.Experience with Salt Spray testing procedures is preferred.Experience with accelerated weathering, including QUV and Xenon Arc testing procedures and equipment is preferred.Experience with color measurement techniques is preferred.Knowledge of environmental testing such as weathering resistance, chemical resistance, surface finishing analysis is a plus.Knowledge and experience in government regulations, EPA testing methods is desirable.Experience in new product development is desirable.Able to work independently and as part of a team.Skilled in translating scientific test results into easily understandable presentations for individuals without technical backgrounds.Able to lift up to 50 lbs.Able to travel up to 5-10% to support collaborative projects and attend industry conferences.Company: Masco

Full time Hiring Range: $53,800.00 - $84,480.00 Actual compensation may vary based on various factors including experience, education, geographic location, and/or skills.
