The Underwriting Manager is responsible for developing and maintaining business partnerships through relationship building, client meetings, sales presentations, and excellent customer service.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Sale

Meets with clients to discuss their marketing and business needs, gains insight into clients' competitive market position, targets customer profiles, media perceptions and budget allocations, creative approach preferences, and the nuts and bolts of their business operationsStrategizes the best way to position the client then prepares and delivers sales presentations to new and existing clients to recommend and sell new sponsorship programs, while maintaining and increasing existing sales ordersMeets or exceeds individual monthly sales goalsSells in a way that is consistent with WUTC's mission, values, and standard of excellence for representing public radioTravels to/from client locations to build and maintain relationships/accounts - Account Manager needs to engage with clients away from the station regularly to successfully conduct sales activitiesSolidifies the business relationship and retains and grows accounts through excellent customer service and a high level of client satisfactionMarketing/Reporting

Monitors market conditions, current industry information, prices, and salesResearches, locates, and contacts potential clients to offer business sponsorship opportunities, including program sponsorships and event space sponsorshipsFollows the systems and processes for monthly projections and weekly goal meetingsPrepares sales projections, weekly reports, short/term strategy, plans, and goalsRepresents the station in a manner that meets the station's brand/market imageContent Creation/Other

Meets all FCC guidelines while using creative and communication skills to write, copy, and deliver to clients for approval/agreementAssists as needed during WUTC Pledge Drives, including but not limited to messaging, on-air pitching, and phone operatorOther duties as assigned to further the mission of WUTC RadioThe ideal candidate will possess the following:

Excellent interpersonal and oral/written communication skillsStrong knowledge of nonprofit marketing, development, and project management principlesAbility to promote the benefits of investing in public media and the station to potential business sponsorsPassion for the public media cause and an avid interest in the nonprofit fieldAbility to connect with potential underwriters, board members, current stakeholders, and more, emphasizing relationship-buildingTechnological skills-mastery of donor databases, spreadsheets, charts, reports, email, electronic calendars, word processing, etc.Self-starter with excellent project management skills to deliver high-quality results under pressure and tight deadlinesDemonstrated problem-solving and analytical abilitiesKnowledge of FCC guidelines and requirementsPassion for and experience with public broadcastingKnowledge of Chattanooga and Tennessee Valley- the people, music, cultures, issues, and geography

Minimum Qualifications:

Requires a bachelor's degree in a relevant field and two years of experience in sales/fundraising; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

A bachelor's degree in nonprofit administration, journalism, marketing, communications, sales, or related field; and 5+ years of sales or nonprofit fundraising/development experience is preferred.
