Position Description

The Washington School of Ballet seeks an energetic candidate with significant experience teaching ballet, modern, contemporary, jazz, Pilates and/or Floor Barre to adult students of various levels ranging from fundamentals, beginner, advanced beginner, intermediate to advanced dancers. The candidate must possess strong knowledge in classical ballet and/or other dance styles, have experience in teaching specifically adults, be punctual and reliable, a good communicator and team player, and follow the school's curriculum.

Key Job Duties

Teach classes to Adult Students at designated levels.

Attend faculty meetings.

Actively participate in creating a work culture that celebrates Diversity, Inclusion, Equity, and Belonging (DEIB).

Experience, Skills and KnowledgeWhile we understand that no single candidate may possess every qualification listed below, the following are priorities.

Teaching or professional experience in a nationally recognized company and/or school is preferred. Support the philosophy and mission of The Washington Ballet and The Washington School of Ballet

Must be a self-starter

Must possess excellent organizational skills, good collaborator

Communicates conflicts, concerns or matters of urgency to appropriate supervisor

Work in a detail-oriented manner, is resourceful and flexible, and is able to handle tasks simultaneously

Work independently and as part of team

Basic understanding of musicality and ability to communicate with pianist

Extensive Classical Ballet knowledge and/or in other dance styles.

Classical Ballet Repertoire

Extensive history and experience teaching specifically adults.

Classroom management
