We create joyful places and pathways for climbing, fitness, yoga, and social experiences that inspire people to challenge themselves and engage in a lifestyle centered around health, friendship, and purpose.HEAD COACHThe Head Coach is responsible for the implementation of all aspects of performance climbing development for the SBP Youth Climbing Team and Adult Instruction at our flagship location: SBP Poplar.The Head Coach will contribute to forwarding the goals and mission of SBP Youth Programs and Adult Bouldering Instruction as an integral part of Seattle Bouldering Project. The Head Coach is a clear communicator, dynamic leader, inclusive facilitator, who fosters youth development through competitive climbing.The Head Coach is also responsible for the implementation of adult instruction at SBP Poplar, including hiring and training instructors for introductory, intermediate, advanced classes, adult team and private instruction.GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIESESSENTIAL DUTIESOrganize, oversee, and implement the competitive youth climbing program and adult instruction. This will include weekly admin and coaching sessions, as well as travel and coaching at competitions. Attend and coach at least three weekly team practices.Develop and maintain training curriculum, implementing individual coaching strategies for each youth climber on the SBP Youth Climbing Team.Work with the Youth Programs Manager to coordinate around competition dates, travel schedule, and logistics for coaches, team members, and families.Participate as appropriate in travel and regional/national/world competitions.Other duties as assigned.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIESSupervise youth during practice, individual instruction, competitions, and various activities, as appropriate.Collaborate closely with the General Manager, Head Setter and Youth Programs Manager to provide leadership and support for Team coaches and bouldering instructors: hiring coaches and managing performance through regular guidance and growth-oriented feedback, and facilitate practice planning sessions and debriefs.FACILITY SAFETY AND INCIDENT RESPONSEServe as staff lead to support Risk Management.Respond proactively to injuries, accidents, or incidents following the Safety Manual and Protocol, ensuring proper documentation of incidents via the incident reporting log.Support Team operations, standards and procedures in accordance with Bouldering Project, SafeSport and USAC guidelines.Strict attention to creating an environment which centers respect, consent, and youth development.INTERPERSONAL CONTACTSWork closely and communicate well with SBP managers and staff.Work closely with and report to General Manager.Interact frequently with members and customers, including team parents and families.Must appropriately represent Seattle Bouldering Project in all of these capacities.Conducting oneself with professionalism is a vital part of the position with a high percentage of time devoted to youth, parents, and innumerable community members.DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS3 years of experience coaching competitive youth climbing in both bouldering and lead climbing.Experience coaching at 3+ USAC youth competitions.USA Climbing Level 2 Coaching Certification.Climbing Wall Instructor Certification.COMPENSATION & BENEFITSEmployer-subsidized healthcare, paid sick and safe time.401K, parental leave, life insurance.Gym memberships for you and a +1.Gear and merchandise discounts in-store and at local retailers.Health and well-being programs.A work environment where community, respect, and balance are core.$24 - $32 an hourWORKING CONDITIONSThis position requires flexibility in working hours, including weekdays, weekends, and evenings. Duties often occur before and after regular business hours.
