What we do:

The Federal Reserve Bank of New York, New York Innovation Center (NYIC) seeks a Research and Innovation Owner who brings strategy, innovation, and product expertise to solve problems that matter to all segments of society served by central banks and the financial system.

The NYIC opened in 2022 and bridges the worlds of finance, technology, and innovation. Through technical research and experimentation, our team generates insights into high-value central bank-related opportunities, enabling stakeholders and the central bank community to enhance the functioning of the global financial system. Our methodology incorporates the principles of corporate innovation, a disciplined portfolio management model and rigorous validation and experimentation of opportunities.

Housed within the New York Fed, we collaborate with the Federal Reserve System, the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) Innovation Hub, and a global network of central bank experts on innovation.

Your role as a Research and Innovation Owner:

  • Working with a multidisciplinary team, this role will be responsible for scoping new projects utilizing innovation related methodologies, planning project delivery harnessing agile methodology and working with diverse stakeholders including senior stakeholders in the Federal Reserve, BIS and the private sector to originate, scope and execute projects to a high standard including drafting reports and related media assets.
  • This role is an opportunity to be a key member of the NYIC team, helping to shape its work program and leading truly exciting and thought leading work.


What we are looking for:

The ideal candidate has a combination of experience related to the following:

Innovation:

  • Experience with innovation related methodologies such as lean startup, design thinking and agile.
  • Leading or supporting innovation driven iterative research and experimentation including knowledge across a range of emerging technologies and the FinTech domain.
  • Working with cross functional teams of subject matter experts and stakeholders.
  • Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills demonstrated by the ability to assimilate new information, understand complex topics, execute sound judgment, develop thoughtful conclusions and make recommendations in a timely manner.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills and the ability to work well under pressure, proactively, and participate in the execution of multiple assignments.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and creatively to problem solve and lead collaboratively to drive results and outcomes.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, influencing, and customer service skills including the ability to direct the activities of staff and effectively collaborate with all levels of management within and outside the Bank.


Technical engineering and development

  • Write technical RFQs, manage technical backlogs, and effectively prioritize requirements.
  • Support business and development teams in designing and developing software proofs of concept, prototypes, and pilots.
  • Familiarity with common developer tools, methodologies, and tech stack.


Product manager/owner

  • Research, ideate and propose product solutions to address a problem in financial markets.
  • Supports product requirements and feature roadmaps from concept through delivery.
  • Translates business needs into well-defined user stories; prioritizes user stories to align with business goals and overall product vision; refines user stories to ensure they are development ready; ensures backlog is transparent, visible, and understood.
  • Completes trade-off analysis when issues arise to manage scope creep; maintain agility while adhering to a minimally viable product.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication skills.


Salary Range: $150000 - $205000 / year
