The Competitive Intelligence Senior Manager is a critical strategic professional role within the Research & Intelligence team. Our program positions us to deliver an enterprise-wide 360-degree insights approach through market research, market and competitive intelligence, and consumer sentiment.

This Competitive Intelligence (CI) Senior Manager role is focused on supporting the Commercial and Group Benefits, Voluntary and Worksite business (e.g. dental, vision, life, disability, supplemental health, well-being products), as well as additional businesses throughout the enterprise at Guardian with timely intelligence and insights

You Will
  • Own end-to-end CI responsibilities managing all aspects of secondary research projects, including: assessing the needs of our business partnerships, establishing CI research methodology, conducting CI research execution and report development, and presenting insights-first analysis to business partners and executive leaders. Primary focus areas include:
  • Intelligence tracking: Recurring delivery of industry and competitor activity related to financial performance, product portfolio enhancements, partnerships, digitization, strategic direction, marketing, distribution and consumer engagement; activities include quarterly LIMRA sales and inforce reporting, market landscapes based on financial performance, results from competitor investor and earnings calls, annuals reports and 10k reports, partnerships and product tracking, and topic-specific monitoring
  • Industry surveys: On-going participation and delivery of non-public external intel conducted by industry consultants (LIMRA, Milliman, Eastbridge, GenRe, RGA, NADP, Competiscan, etc.) that informs industry, carrier, segment and stakeholder insights and comparative data; activities include managing and synthesizing industry reports and analysis from proprietary partners and leading industry consultants, market sizing and volumetrics for product, demographic and industry segments
  • Custom research: Custom market scans based on external intelligence sourcing, curated across stakeholder groups (consumers, employers, brokers, financial professionals, etc) based on specific needs to help inform business strategic priorities, target letter goals, and tactical execution
  • On demand support: Desk support resource that provides specific data-driven information, intelligence, longitudinal trending and knowledge to colleagues upon request (including top industry and competitor news, trends, and market activity

You Have:
  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Business Administration, Finance, Statistics, or a related field.
  • MBA or Master's degree desired
  • Deep technical knowledge of the Commercial & Group Benefits industry (primary), as well as the insurance industry.
  • Experience leveraging a wide range of proprietary and public intel sources (including financial and trending data) to develop and inform insights-based recommendations that support strategic decision making.
  • Proven ability with curating and interpreting data from these techniques/sources and curating the insights from the data for executive-level audiences.
  • Experience synthesizing truly impactful insights based on deep understanding of the operational and economic realities of the business; must be very comfortable with numbers, business and financial statistics
  • Leverages a wide range of proprietary and public intel sources (including financial and trending data) that supports business decision making
  • Advanced Excel and document management skills required to support database management for longitudinal and market trending (including tracking of competitor top and bottom-line metrics, loss ratios, etc), and custom topic tracking such as competitive product enhancements and partnerships
  • Strong project management skills, including successful industry survey management and synthesis; able to seamlessly bridge internal team members and vendor partners in the collection of data inputs and providing relevant, timely data outputs across a high volume of partners
  • Strong storytelling skills that go beyond just data/information sharing, good attention to detail, formatting and quality output is critical, as is careful, thorough work that is concise and clear
  • Advanced business acumen in conducting competitive intelligence in order to drive the creation of meaningful insights, and subsequent utilization across the business


Location & Travel
  • This role is hybrid out of our Hudson Yards NYC, Bethlehem PA or Boston MA office with 3 days a week in office
  • 5% travel to other offices as required


Salary Range
$82,660.00 - $135,805.00

The salary range reflected above is a good faith estimate of base pay for the primary location of the position. The salary for this position ultimately will be determined based on the education, experience, knowledge, and abilities of the successful candidate. In addition to salary, this role may also be eligible for annual, sales, or other incentive compensation.
