Department: OSIS MammographyFTE: 0.05Casual Pool (as needed)Shift: Rotating

Position Summary:Provide health care services, applying x-ray energy to assist in diagnosis or treatment of breast disease in humans. Ensure adherence to Hospitals and departmental policies and procedures. Patient care assignment may include adolescent, adult and geriatric age groups.

Detailed Responsibilities:

PATIENT CARE:

Assume care for physical needs of the patient during examinations and procedures.OBSERVATION:

Observe patient and equipment during procedures; document patient reactions or problems on requisition and report immediately to supervisor.X-RAY:

Follow prescribed techniques to administer general and specific x-rays; adjust equipment; calculate exposure factors, position and immobilize patients as necessary, use appropriate lead shielding.EXAM:

Understand methods and provide or assist with physical breast inspection or palpation.PATIENT EDUCATION:

Provide patient education when necessary, including breast self-examination techniques.QUALITY:

Assume responsibility for portions of the quality control programs and provide instruction as required.EQUIPMENT:

Operate imaging equipment, computer and other assistive devices according to department standards.SAFETY:

Provide protection to patients, family members, staff in accordance with prescribed radiation safety standards and ALARA.CONTRAST MEDIA:

Prepare and administer contrast media/agents.IMAGING:

Assist physician with imaging process; follow Radiology protocols.CLINICAL EDUCATION:

Instruct specific units of didactic and/or clinical education as required to students, clinical staff and residents.PATIENT ASSISTANCE:

Assist in reception area, scheduling office and/or film library; aid patients and transport them, as necessary.SUPPLIES:

Clean assigned area; maintain stock supply levels through inventory control and requisitioning.ADMINISTRATION:

Perform various administrative functions such as monitoring expenditures and preparing reports and correspondence; may participate in a variety of research projects to develop service plans; may propose changes to program policies and procedures.FLOAT:

May be required to float to another work assignment/area.DEVELOPMENT:

Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, reading current literature, attending in-services, meetings and workshops.PATIENT SAFETY:

Follow patient safety-related policies, procedures and protocols; demonstrate proactive approach to patient safety by seeking opportunities to improve patient safety; identify and report/correct environmental conditions that may put a patient at risk; report potential or actual patient safety concerns in a timely manner; encourage patients to actively participate in their own care.MEDICATION:

Under the supervision or direction of a Radiologist, safely and properly retrieve, handle, store, and waste select medications for use during the setup, performance, and cleanup of radiology procedures.Qualifications

CPR for Healthcare/BLS Provider or Prof Rescuers w/in 30 daysMammography Certification by ARRT w/in 12 monthsAmerican Registry of Radiologic Technologists LicenseNM Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Program Lic NMMIRTPPhysical Conditions:Heavy Work: Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects or people. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Medium Work.
