To further Blue Origin's mission of having millions of people living and working in space, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.As part of a hardworking team of diverse, multi-disciplinary engineers, you will be the single threaded leader for development of multiple product lines of cameras and optical sensor systems for imaging, autonomous navigation and other applications for Blue Origin's spacecraft. You will lead a multidisciplinary team for development of these systems from early concepts to product prototypes to flight units. This role is deeply interdisciplinary and requires coordination among a diverse group of internal stakeholders, and suppliers.Responsibilities include but are not limited to:Develop, execute, and manage plan for the design, development, test, and qualification of multiple camera and optical sensor system product lines.Lead trades on image sensor options, optical configurations, image processing techniques, etc., to guide optimal product specifications.Lead a team of engineers and technicians across multiple product teams to guide the design and development, and deliver qualified product solutions on schedule and budget.Work with various product and spacecraft teams to identify needs for cameras on our spacecraft, support formulation of imaging architectures, and deliver product definitions that meet requirements.Work with the GN&C team to identify needs for optical sensors on our spacecraft, support formulation of navigation architectures, and deliver product definitions that meet requirements.Serve as subject matter expert on cameras and optical systems.Routinely collaborate with manufacturing operations, supply chain, and other teams within the company to ensure smooth execution of the development efforts.Identify cross-cutting capabilities and needs across Blue Origin, consolidate demand, and formulate efficient strategies for development of cameras and optical sensors.Work with product teams to understand their product portfolio, long term applicability, and inform development of their camera and sensor product roadmaps.Develop product evolution plans and strategies for optical systems and execute projects for continuous improvement, and oversee their infusion into our spacecraft.Relentlessly look for opportunities to increase performance, enable new capabilities and bolder missions, reduce cost, and reduce cycle time/production time.Minimum Qualifications:M.S. in Physics, electrical engineering or related areas of study.10+ years of experience in optical design, imaging sensors, and precision opto-mechanical assemblies.Demonstrated experience in the development, prototyping, testing, and calibration of optical imaging systems for aerospace, automotive, medical, or robotics.Proficiency of fundamentals of imaging systems and demonstrated ability to perform comprehensive optical and image quality characterizations (focus/MTF, radiometry and spectral response, distortion/camera models, boresight alignment, etc.).Experience in optical system modeling and simulation using tools such as ZEMAX, CODE V, LightTools, etc.Deep knowledge of optical imaging system components (lenses, sensors, sensor and image processing electronics, etc.) and their characterization.Knowledge of image processing techniques to inform camera and sensor trades.Experience in product schedule, cost, delivery, and supplier management.Ability to challenge status-quo, break down issues to their fundamental elements, and drive efficient product solutions with emphasis on long term goals and product sustainability.Excellent verbal communication skills to influence a variety of direct and indirect stakeholders.Strong technical background or technical writing experience.Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.Preferred Qualifications:Ability to lead a broad multi-disciplinary team while maintaining technical rigor and diving deep into solving technical issues.Experience in development of cameras, sensors, and instruments to space applications, and space environment.Demonstrated experience in leading technical teams through multiple successful product deliveries.Compensation range for on-site WA applicants is $167,088-$233,923.Compensation range for on-site CO applicants is $153,636-$215,090.Other site ranges may differ.Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis until the requisition is closed.Inclusivity Statement:Don't meet all desired requirements?
