The RoleAt a16z, we believe data is at the core of making informed decisions and effectively supporting our portfolio companies. Our Data & Analytics team builds and manages the infrastructure that supports our data lake (Databricks), data pipelines (dbt), data ingestion (Fivetran & custom Python scripts), and data visualizations (Looker/Hex). We leverage cutting-edge GenAI alongside more traditional data & analytics to empower our firm.

As a Business Intelligence Analyst, you will play a crucial role in transforming raw data into actionable insights. You will work closely with stakeholders across the organization to understand their data needs and provide data-driven solutions. Your primary focus will be on developing and maintaining dashboards and reports in Looker, while also being open to learning and utilizing Hex for advanced analytics. This role requires a blend of technical skills, analytical thinking, and strong communication abilities.

Collaborate with stakeholders to understand their data needs and translate them into technical requirements

Utilize SQL to query and manipulate data for reporting and analysis purposes

Develop, maintain, and optimize dashboards and reports in Looker to provide actionable insights to stakeholders

Learn and utilize Hex for advanced analytics and data visualization projects

Conduct data analysis to identify trends, patterns, and insights that support business decisions

Ensure data quality and integrity by performing regular data validation and cleansing

Document processes, methodologies, and findings to ensure knowledge sharing and reproducibility

Provide training and support to stakeholders on how to use Looker and interpret the data presented

Minimum Qualifications

3+ years of experience in business intelligence, data analysis, or a related field

Proficiency in Looker (preferably) and SQL, with a proven track record of developing and maintaining dashboards and reports

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and communicate insights effectively

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work closely with stakeholders to understand their needs and deliver solutions

Skilled at making data conversational; leveraging analytics and feedback to build recommendations and influence processes

Willingness to learn and adapt to new tools and technologies

Detail-oriented with a focus on data accuracy and quality

Familiarity with data warehousing concepts and ETL processes

Knowledge of Python or other programming languages for data analysis is preferred

Low ego, high empathy, and the capacity to collaborate effectively with diverse teams

The anticipated salary range for this role is between $138,000-$161,000, actual starting pay may vary based on a range of factors which can include experience, skills, and scope.

This role is eligible to participate in the a16z Carry program and various discretionary bonus programs as well as benefit and perquisite plans including health, dental, vision, disability, life insurance, 401K plan, vacation, and sick leave.
