SpecialNeeds Arts Programs Inc. (SNAP) is seeking an Assistant Music Director to help facilitate our Sing Along Chorus rehearsals and performance for teens and adults with disabilities.The Sing Along Chorus brings together individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities to learn about singing and music at weekly rehearsals. This ensemble aims to create a welcoming musical space while affirming and highlighting individual voices. Beyond the music, the Sing Along Chorus is a platform for building meaningful connections. Participants form friendships, share experiences, and create a supportive community that extends beyond the program.The Sing Along Chorus employs innovative strategies to make the program accessible to all, including adaptive techniques, visual aids, and other tools that cater to diverse learning styles. Our approach is rooted in acknowledging and celebrating the individual and collective wealth of knowledge within our community, recognizing the immense talent and creativity that our members contribute. By embracing these strategies, the Sing Along Chorus at Special Needs Arts Programs, Inc. strives to create an environment where every participant can thrive, express themselves, and experience the joy of music in a way that suits their unique abilities and preferences.The fall session runs weekly, on Mondays and Wednesdays, from September through January. The spring session runs weekly, on Mondays and Wednesdays, from February through June. SNAP holds two concerts each year, in the fall and spring, and participates in community performances and events. Rehearsals would be for older teens and adults from 6:30-8pm. Rehearsals take place at the Lexington Community Center, 39 Marrett Road, in Lexington.Responsibilities include the following:Assist the Music Director in planning and conducting rehearsals.Assist in selecting appropriate repertoire that meets the diverse needs and abilities of the choir members.Support members in learning and memorizing music.Musical Responsibilities:Provide vocal coaching and instruction to improve the musical skills of choir members.Assist in teaching music theory, sight-singing, and vocal techniques tailored to individual capabilities.Help with the development of performance skills, including stage presence and confidence.Accessibility:Ensure a supportive and inclusive environment for all choir members, respecting and accommodating their unique needs.Assist in adapting musical materials and rehearsal techniques to suit different learning styles and abilities.Work closely with caregivers and support staff to provide a holistic and accessible choir experience.Qualifications:Experience:Previous experience in choral directing, music education, or working with adults with disabilities.Experience in vocal coaching and music instruction.Familiarity with adaptive teaching methods and inclusive practices in music education.Skills:Strong vocal and musical skills, with the ability to teach and lead diverse groups.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.Ability to work collaboratively and supportively with individuals of varying abilities.Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.Patience, empathy, and a positive attitude toward supporting individuals with disabilities.How To Apply:Interested candidates can send their resume and cover letter by July 26th to Heidi O’Mara, SNAP Executive Director, at info@snaparts.org.Apply by:July 26, 2024Salary:$10,000 - $12,000 / Per yearAbout this Organization:Founded in 1981, SNAP creates opportunities for those who identify as being neurodivergent to express their artistic talents and abilities, cultivate friendships, and enhance community awareness.
