The Attorney General’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit (“MFCU”) is a specialized unit where attorneys work as a team with MFCU investigators and analysts to investigate and prosecute Medicaid provider fraud throughout Illinois. Assistant Attorneys General (“AAGs”) are required to prosecute criminal cases and litigate civil cases in Illinois State and Federal courts. Medicaid cases relate to fraud on the Medicaid system, the abuse and neglect of long-term care facility residents, and the litigation of civil

cases in state and federal court. An AAG in this position is given the rare opportunity to practice both criminally and civilly. Additionally, this position is expected to handle civil fraud cases that might span the entire country; the AAGs frequently work on national teams with other states to handle multi-state litigation.Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:Prepare cases in state and federal courts and conduct trials.Interview witnesses, prepare pleadings, and conduct research for trials.Respond to pre-trial motions.Attend various courts for arraignments, hearings, pre-trial, and post-trial motions.Negotiate settlements and dispositions.Prepare periodic activity reports.Applicants must be licensed in Illinois at the time of application. The position requires skill for presenting and arguing cases in court and/or administrative hearings. Candidates must maintain working relationships with court officials and client agencies.Minimum Qualifications:Knowledge of the principles of civil and criminal law and of the methods and practices of pleading and discovery; knowledge of judicial procedures and rules of evidence is required with special emphasis on federal civil practice. Applicants must be licensed in Illinois at the time of application.

Two or more years of civil and/or criminal practice experience is preferred.

Ability to travel is a necessity.
