Job Summary

The MRI Technologist I performs procedures in accordance with departmental protocols and standards. Operates MRI Scanners and associated equipment with a high level of proficiency.

Essential Functions

Examines requests and verifies orders on each assigned patient. Refers and questions orders to the Radiologist before performing exam.

Properly identifies (using two patient identifiers) and assists patients while offering a brief explanation of the procedures.

Interviews patients for a complete medical history and reviews EMRs to obtain pertinent clinical history.

Assumes responsibility for the exam from beginning to completion of dictated results.

Prepares and administers IV contrast according to departmental protocols.

Evaluates technical quality of images and consults with a Radiologist if needed.

Performs basic patient care functions and informs appropriate nursing personnel of any changes in the patient’s condition.

Performs MRI scanning and assists Physicians/PA during invasive procedures.

Maintains knowledge and skills required to work safely in an environment that can create significant exposure to bloodborne pathogens and infectious disease.

Adheres to the hospital fire and safety procedures.

Operates radiology computer system to include entering orders and charging procedures/supplies.

Maintains assigned work area in a neat and orderly fashion.

Assists other medical personnel, such as anesthesia, when performing exams or services in conjunction with a MRI scan.

Maintains knowledge of all MRI safety requirements for both staff and patients.

Physical Requirements

Requires moderate to heavy physical efforts in lifting and moving patients, equipment, and supplies. Occasional standing, walking, and sitting during normal operation.

Education, Experience and Certifications

Graduate of an accredited two-year AMA approved program in Radiologic or Nuclear Medicine Technology or active enrollment in an ARMRIT or ARRT registry eligible program required. ARRT certification in Radiologic Technology, ARRT or NMTCB for Nuclear Medicine with advanced registry from the ARMRIT or ARRT in MRI required within one year of hire. CPR certification required.
