St. Raphael Catholic Church & School seeks a dynamic, faith filled, Music Director to foster a culture of sacred music in our liturgical prayer and worship. St. Raphael was founded in the 1962 on beautiful Snell Isle in St. Petersburg, Florida, and we have grown to over 1500 families. Our parish and school are committed to working together to strengthen families and raise our children in the love of God and accompany them to find their place in this world in building the Kingdom. Our Catholic identity is grounded in prayer and a strong sense of community, rooted in our sacramental life, while growing in discipleship, serving the poor, working for justice, and reaching the lost.The full-time Music Director will collaborate with the pastor, other clergy, staff, and the entire parish community to provide for prayerful and participatory liturgies. The ideal applicant isa committed Catholic confident in ministerial roles with a strong understanding of Catholic music and liturgy. We seek a skilled organist and pianist who can foster talent within and build a sense of team among our cantors and various choirs, including school-aged children and collaborating with the youth ministry musician, who provides music to the youth ministry and Life Teen Mass.The salary for this position is guided by the National Association of Pastoral Music Ministry Guide with respect to Florida standard of living, musical talent, education, experience, and years of service. Degrees in Music are preferred but not required. Additional stipends are provided for funerals and weddings.Professional Qualifications:Skill and experience in playing the organ and piano, choir direction, music selection, and ensemble selection.Familiarity with Catholic liturgy, especially the importance of prayerful musical participationDedication to and experience with growing a congregational music ministry, including working with various choirs and volunteer musicians.Strong sense of collaboration and communicationOrganizational and administrative skillsJob Duties:Provide and facilitate organ, piano, choral, instrumental, and/or other appropriate music at principal liturgies of the church, including Saturdays/Sundays, holy days of obligation, weddings, funerals, bi- monthly holy hours, special services, and occasional parish concerts.Select all music for worship with guidance from the pastor.Develop musical ability and sense of community and ministry with the choir and congregation.Facilitate a culture of congregational singing and musical participation.Hire special musicians to enhance worship and improve the skills of the choir, as required.Recommend and oversee maintenance and tuning of all church-owned musical instruments, projection, and sound system.Maintain and update the parish music library, including management of subscriptions, licenses, & copyrights.Guide and collaborate with the Youth Ministry Musician, who provides music to the youth ministry and Life Teen Mass.Serve as a member of the parish staff, including efficient communication, staff meeting attendance, and participation in liturgical and other parish event planning.Complete all diocesan requirements for employment.Oversee communication of events in the bulletin and other parish communications such as Flocknote.Collaborate with the pastor and parish manager in planning, preparing, and adhering to an annual budget for music ministry in the parish.Communicate promptly and professionally regarding church music with clergy, parish staff, music ministry participants, parishioners, and families seeking funeral and wedding.Collaborate with St. Raphael school principal and faculty to provide music at the school mass, create a culture of musical participation between school and parish, and involve school children in regular weekend parish liturgies.Direct the adult choir and the school children’s choir, which shall include holding regular rehearsals and selecting music for these ensembles.Form and direct special/periodic ensembles as needed, such as holiday choir, hand bell choir, small group/scholars, and instrumental ensembles.Candidate must successfully pass a Level II FBI Background Screening and complete Safe Environment Training prior to employment.
