UAB Medicine offers avenues for advancement that other employers cannot match .General ResponsibilitiesTo serve as the senior accounting officer for UAB Health System (UABHS). Provides the accounting/financial reporting, corporate finance, and financial management information systems functions for UAB Health System. To be responsible for preparation of UABHS’s financial statements and all component units. To provide leadership in the management of financial resources to ensure achievement of business plans and objectives, and to preserve the assets and financial standing of UABHS.Key Duties & ResponsibilitiesDevelops strategies for continuous improvement of processes, systems and practices to support operations.Works closely with the HS CFO ensuring financial stewardship within the health system enterprise.Coordinates all external regulatory reporting including external audit and tax reporting.Assists in Treasury functions including banking and investment strategy within UABHS.Oversees purchasing and accounts payable activities within UABHS.Develops long range strategic financial and capital plans in conjunction with UABHS CFO.Ensures that UABHS complies with State and Federal laws, UA Board and UAB Policies governing accounting.Coordinates preparation of Health System Finance Committee information with entity CFOs.Performs other duties as assigned.QualificationsBachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting or a related field and ten (10) years experience with healthcare financial management, five (5) years of which must be in a senior level in a university or teaching hospital/physician practice plan environment required. Master's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Healthcare Administration or related field preferred. Work experience may NOT substituted for education requirement.Licenses / Certifications / RegistrationsCertified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Financial Manager (CFM) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) designation required.Supervisory ResponsibilitiesApproximately four (4) to ten (10) direct reports.Budget ResponsibilitiesManagement of funds with signatory and/or budget authority.Knowledge / Skills / AbilitiesPrioritization skillsAbility to manage and meet multiple deadlinesAbility to exhibit flexibility and cope effectively in an ever-changing, fast-paced healthcare environment
